Trey DePriest (former LB Alabama)

Are Trey's coaches pro-OSU? Maybe it's me, but from the updates it seems the coaching staff is high on Alabama as well. They could just be neutral, and it's my Ohio State glasses, but every time they talk about Bama' it's glowing remarks and when it's Ohio State it is very business-like.

I sort of got that impression also. It's like they are tickled to have coaches from the BCSNC school in seeing one of their boys. Whatever the case may be, if a kid wants to take his visits, I'm not sure why a coach would advise against that unless that coach is trying to avoid a full season worth of distractions.
Who knows. With B Miller looking like a lock, I like our chances a lot better than our chances last year with Jordan Hicks.

Yes they are. However, Bama has really established a great working relationship with the Springfield staff. Sunseri has worked some magic. They believe the Bama program is here to stay. Cupps is a guy that will put aside fandom and research the best option for each individual recruit. However, should Trey start leaning towards OSU, there will be nobody much happier than those around his recruitment.

that must mean they think Alabama will withdraw his offer if he gets injured, because that wouldn't be a problem for Ohio State, quite the family atmosphere Saban has going down there, you can tell he really cares about what's best for the kids

Should of cleared that up. It is actually due to some previous recruitments that went sour after injuries that did not include Bama. Not to say that type of treatment isn't prevalent in the SEC.

DePriest children have strong female role models
Mom, grandma, and great-grandma all played a role in Trey and Brianna?s success.

SPRINGFIELD ? Sue DePriest drove a school bus for 27 years. At the end of her career, her grandchildren, Brianna and Trey DePriest, rode that bus.

Few ran a smooth route like Sue. ?If reporters came, if Channel 7 came, they put them on my bus,? she said as she pulled out an old News-Sun clipping. A photo shows a young Trey asleep on a seat.

Sue smiles now when she thinks about that time spent with her grandchildren. She put in 100 miles a day shuttling students to Lagonda, Simon Kenton and Snowhill elementary schools.

Sometimes, Brianna and Trey thought they were entitled to a little bit more freedom on their grandma?s bus. Grandma had a better idea.

?You had to earn your way to the back of the bus,? Sue said. ?You don?t just get to sit back there. You had to behave upfront first.?

?She wanted us to set the examples for other people in how to act on the bus,? Trey said. Except for the one day a substitute drove the bus, they were exemplary passengers.

Sounds like a great kid, IMO he's the most important LB prospect we're going after, next to Crowell. Hope we get both, it'd hurt if 2yrs in a row we couldn't land the top LB in our own state. That rarely if ever happens at the other powerhouse schools like UF, USC, Texas or Bama. If we want to continually keep up, we need to land our top prospects in state annually.

In today's Recruiting Round-up, Sam Webb says DePriest's mom says they might make it up for the BBQ at the Big House (Junior Day) this weekend. DePriest had a open date for the Michigan Spring Game (no baseball) and didn't show up for that event. Why can't they just let it go? He is not interested in Michigan. I don't understand why Michigan has so much trouble recruiting linebackers. Even when the team was good, they had trouble recruiting linebackers despite having sent linebackers to the NFL.

This started long before 2007. Michigan has been converting high school safties to linebacker for years. The only two 5* linebackers I can think of were Lamar Woodley and Brandon Graham and they both ended up at DE. They have never gotten a 5* LB that played LB for 3 or 4 yrs. I heard a stat a few years ago that Michigan had more LBs in the NFL than PSU and OSU. From perception, out of the three programs, 99% of people would put Michigan third on the list.

Two thoughts on DePriest's 3-4 day trip to Bama with Coach, Mom and Grandma--from an tOSU perspective,
1. Would prefer they take that Southern trip in June as opposed to December -March.
Weather in Bama can be hot humid and oppressive for summer workouts.
2. DePriest will want to note the position dpeth presently and also the recruits verbaled for next year.
The Bama roster lists 19 linebackers with 15 in the mix (Freshmen through Junior) when the class of 2011 enter.
Bama Rivals lists two 2011 recruits already verbaled for Bama including a 5 star, 6.1 OLB and a 4 star MLB.

We'll see how this one starts to play out when the season starts. Hopefully some of the luster of 'Bama starts to wear off, and the good guys begin to appeal to him more. No inside knowledge here, just speculation that he ends up here.

That would be the ideal scenario...if he waits past summer, I think OSU has a really good shot here. Here is to hoping he isn't pushed for a summer verbal.
