Just got back from a roughly 10,000 mile road trip with my son who turned 17 on the road. Drove our truck camper to Alaska including using a ferry to see the inside passage from Prince Reuport, BC to Juneau.
An amazing and fun filled trip. I envy you. My amazing trio was going to the Shoe to see Woody and the Buckeyes.

I have to ask - how cramped is it sleeping in that Camper?
Not bad at all. It’s a N/S facing bed meaning it runs lengthwise which is what I was looking for. That way ya don’t have to crawl over someone to get out. It’s a queen with about 12” or so of carpeted area on each side and a small cabinet.

My son kicked, elbowed and rolled around like crazy though. It was a 5 week trip and about week two I woke up one morning and told him “I’m gonna cocoon yer ass” and tossed him a mummy sleeping bag. That made a world of difference. I slept under the covers like normal with him on top of the comforter in his mummy bag.

Hahahaha. Worked great. Like a freaking straight jacket.

Yeah I’m definitely addicted to this life of adventure. My wife is a teacher and I’m going back to school to get my degree in my mid 40s so I can teach too and travel with her in the summer. I was making great money in banking but hated it. Life’s just too damn short.

We used to have a 24’ motor home and travel a few weeks at a time and my son has been to almost every state, 30+ national parks, hiked for a week in Wyoming, a few week long rafting trips, a week in the Boundary Waters in MN, etc. This one was just the cherry on top.

It’s unbelievably awesome to just say fuck it and do what you want. I highly recommend it.

On his return home, ShowMeBuck found that the Mrs didn't embrace the "cocoon yer ass" concept with equal enthusiasm.

Did the moose survive?

Our epic trip was: Ohio to Buffalo, ate at Duffs (site of the first Buffalo Chicken Wing) then Niagra Falls (went on Maid of the Mist), then into Canada. Drove through Ontario to Montreal. Stayed in the Old City for 3 days, saw the Notre Dame Cathedral and some interesting old buildings. Drove to Fredricton, New Brunswick and then on to Nova Scotia. Stayed a week on the beach at the Bay of Fundy, toured the National Park and just chilled. Then drove down to Bar Harbor, Maine and toured Acadia National Park. Then drove to Boston and stayed 3 days, touring the old city and going to Fenway Park. Then drove to New York City and stayed 2 days. Saw the Broadway show "The Band's Visit" and a Yankees game. Ate in Little Italy.

Loved every minute of it. The kids didn't fight; neither did my wife and I. It is probably the last vacation we take as a family as my son is a Senior at OSU and my daughter starts at The College of Wooster in a couple of weeks. Wouldn't trade these memories for anything.

No, she died.

Sounds like a awesome trip man. I’ve always wanted to see Nova Scotia. What beach? Any travel advice for that region?

We stayed in the Village of Inverness. It's on the Northwest part of the island. Their beach was nice and clean and not too crowded. Not overly hot, but not cold either.
They are big on celebrating their Celtic heritage. Lots of that type of music. Seafood is very good but a tad on the expensive side. People were great.

To clarify: We went to Cape Breton Island, which is part of Nova Scotia.
Yeah I looked it up. Looks cool. We did Niagra, lower half of VT, breezed through Southern NH and then did 8 days in ME one time. Always wanted to go back to see upper VT, all of NH, revisit ME (especially Camden) and then head up to Nova Scotia. We will do this in a few years in the new adventure rig and take about 5 weeks.

On a side note, someone along the trip suggested we do West Point and we followed their advice. Glad we did as it was one of the highlights of our trip. We only had a few hours but loved it. So much history and gorgeous setting. We will go back when we can spend more time.
