</td> </tr> </tbody></table> AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas cornerback Cedric Griffin has talked with police, a lawyer advising the player said Friday night, amid reports authorities are investigating an alleged assault and a robbery they believe might have been committed by Longhorns athletes.
Police would not identify the suspects, say how many are being investigated or if they are members of the second-ranked Longhorns football team, which is scheduled to play top-ranked Southern California in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4 for the national title.
Three Austin television stations reported that the suspects are football players. The school said it had talked to the athletes and did not plan any action against them.
<script language="JavaScript"></script> <noscript> </noscript>According to police, the incidents were an alleged armed robbery with an automatic handgun on Sept. 4 and assault and attempted robbery on Dec. 10. No charges have been filed.
Ken Oden, a lawyer advising Griffin, said the player has talked with police about a Dec. 10 nonviolent "trash talking" incident.
"I do think the notoriety and celebrity because of the big game coming up may be lending more drama to the situation than the facts would justify," Oden said.
Griffin is a senior starter for the second-ranked Longhorns.
Athletic director DeLoss Dodds said the university was surprised police released the allegations and that the school did not plan any action against the athletes.
Although Dodds' prepared statement said the school has talked to two athletes, it did not identify them or what sport they play.
"We have followed up on the rumors that we are hearing and spoken with the two student-athletes who are alleged to be under investigation," Dodds said.
Austin police spokesman Kevin Buchman said his office issued the statement after receiving several inquiries from the media. He said police would not release more information.

All three were reserve players. Tatum played in eight games and recorded four tackles this season. Houston played in two games, rushing for 27 yards and three carries. Wilkerson redshirted this season.

Hmmm? Didn't think this deserved it's own thread but....."strange things are afoot at the Circle K."

wasnt wilkerson a real big recruit they were anxious to see? i dont remember exactly. however i am not going to be sold on all of this. i suppose so far we can all deduct the players did something wrong but we do not know to what extent so im not going to ponder and let the media erupt and say they will all be jailed and not be playing in the game when they have nothing really all that relevant to work with yet. i believe as ohio state fans we fully understand how the media can twist and contort and go jack off in the corner over these types of stories. so yea they obviously did wrong but still dont know if they committed the robbery but if they dont play thats bad news for texas. taylor has other people to fill in but he plays a big role in special teams and as a rb. im not sure about griffin on the other hand. i have no clue who fills in for him. it might be convenient to have him out there against that one high powered offensive team called ummm USC. i picked USC to win anyways:biggrin:

It is being thrown out there a lot that there are two separate incidents, and that the one with Ced and Ramonce was just a verbal altercation, with possible contact, but that the other involved one of the transfers. That would work out okay. As for Wilkerson, great numbers in high school, but he is also 5'8" 175, and stuck behind at least three RBs on the depth chart. Might be a good move for him. As for Tatum, there were rumors about his transfer earlier in the season, he is supposed to be a pretty fast MoFo, and we could have used him for secondary depth next year.

Thing about Houston, go to his page on Mackbrown-Texasfootball, while his name is being throw around in this matter, he also was the founder of "Young People Against Violence"

He was great in High School. I got to see him play. Here is a write up on Jerrell Wilkerson. To me he is a small speed back. 5'8" 175 lbs

A two-time first-team 5A all-state selection … four-year letterman and four-time all-district pick … played in the 2005 U.S. Army All-America Bowl … rushed for 7,249 yards (San Antonio city record) and 110 TDs in his career … totaled 124 TDs, including 12 kick return TDs … helped his team to the 5A Division II area finals as a senior ... earned 2004 USA Today All-America honors … tabbed first-team 5A all-state by The Associated Press as a senior … named District 27-5A MVP as well as all-area MVP in 2004 … rushed for 2,501 yards and 47 TDs as a senior … scored a total of 54 TDs, including four kickoff returns and two punt returns … had over 400 yards rushing and seven first-half rushing TDs in game versus Holmes as a senior … ran for 290 yards on 20 carries and five TDs versus Taft in 2004 … named first-team 5A all-state by The Associated Press and second-team 5A all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association as a junior … rushed for 2,201 yards and 34 TDs in 2003 … also returned three kickoffs for TDs that year … named first-team all-district and second-team all-area as a sophomore … returned three kickoffs for TDs in 2002 … earned Honorable Mention all-district as a freshman … also was a four-year letterman in track … competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and sprint relays … played basketball as a freshman.

5A is the equivalent to div. 1 in Ohio.
