ttun basketball (Juwan out, Dusty May in)

Right now McGary is looking dumb for coming back. He had lightning in a bottle in the tourney, he's never going to have his stock that high again. UM is not going to make an F4 run in any of the next few years, and Trey Burke isn't walking through that door to pass McGary the ball anymore.

It was a calculated risk. He had a strong tourney run and apparently thought that he could build on that this year and hopefully go higher in 2014. I think most mocks that included him had him going in the 12-15 range at the highest...that I saw anyway. But, he obviously underestimated how much losing Burke would impact them, and then the ever-present injury risks. Plus, as deep as this coming draft looks, he was probably looking at a marginal bump at best. In retrospect, it was not the best move.

McGary's not the only one. Robinson has struggled this year as well. Then again, the fact that he doesn't have a jumpshot was apparent to anyone who was paying attention last year as well. Burke made him (as well as McGary) look better.

To quote my father, he "Doesn't know [Mark May] from Shinola."
Now long forgotten. Shinola was a popular floor wax a century ago. In India and Africa, some tribes used cow dung for floor covering, polishing it until it looked like wood. TSUN football and basketball are a lot like that, the appearance looks very professional, but it's still dung.

I heard that phrase in my childhood. One of those things you manufacture your own interpretation for, since no one explains it. Just thought it was clever alliteration. Thanks for the history lesson.
