Is Michigan finally becoming Michigan again?

I will let your board answer that question :

How many days has it been since Sparty has beaten us......*

in football or basketball.
POD...and I THINK it's 147 days*
Who wants to buy a billboard in East Lansing?*
I was thinking 'Get the F off our court'
I'll chip in $50. Seriously...
My wife is a Sparty grad, so my contribution can't be traceable. But I'd be more than happy to chip in $50 cash for:
"From #2 to nowhere. The MSU story."
"Congrats, you beat Wisconsin in football, but you probably shoulda practiced for 'bama instead of complaining."
"Get the F of our court."
Anything trying to draw a comparison between Izzo and an Oompa Loompa
A picture of Kalin Lucas's face from last year's game with the phrase "Take that mother f'ers!" Followed by "We swept you and had no seniors."
"You had a great decade in hoops, but we've been doing this for over 130 years in football. That's why we seem arrogant. Seriously, think about it."
yeah, those will show them
Depending on the message, you can put me down for $100 for 2 months.*
I'm in for $50 for sure!! Might be the best money I'll ever spend!! Seriously, let me know!!
I'll put in $100 if this thing gets going.
I am in for $50!
Nope, even when you finally win you still work hard to retain that little brother image.

We make fun of scUM (and rightfully so); however, John Beilein should be be given some credit here. Finishing with a 4 seed in the Big 10 tournament is really pretty good for them especially considering who was 1, 2, & 3. I mean before the seaon didin't we all predict that scUM would be one of the conference "bottom feeders"?

Eh.

They finished 9-9 in conference play, tied with 3 other teams and behind OSU, Purdue and Wisky. Thats 7 of the 11 accounted for.

They finished with a better record than 4 teams, two of which, IU and Iowa, everyone knew coming in were going to be horrible.

More of an indicator of just how far the standards have fallen up there if you ask me.

Hardaway kept pace with Lucas, not Morris, who was 20% from the floor before that layup.

One of the few things MSU did right on Saturday was game plan for Morris. His jumpshot is so horrible that all you have to do to stop him is give him space to keep him from driving and instead settle for jumpshots. The result? A laughable 3 for 11 from the field.

You're giving them way too much credit. First of all, there is a HUGE dropoff in talent from teams 1, 2, and 3 in the Big Ten this year vs. the rest of the conference. Secondly, they won every tiebreaker to finish at the #4 seed--they had the same conference record as the #7 seed. Under that appropriate lens, their season doesn't look nearly as good.

To be fair, some finally stepped up and called out how stupid and juvenile (as a program) this stunt was, however that didn't occur until a day later after $1000 had been pledged.

As usual, rci stands against the madness (most have given up banging their head against the wall in reaching these folks)
If you met me, you'd know I'm not in the "Down in Front" crowd. *The only thing that is accomplished by putting up a billboard is that we look ridiculous for celebrating two wins over Sparty. *Wins are to be expected. *When you put up a billboard, it's like you've never been on top before. *And by the way, we are still nowhere near the top in football or basketball, so we'd look even more foolish. *

TCU put up billboards in Columbus because they are a little guy and they've never been on top before. *They are having fun with their 2 minutes of fame. *Do you think we need a bunch of attention like TCU fans?
chriscas21 wrote: i have a feeling if you asked for ages... the people who don't want a billboard are definitely in the 'older' population.

right up there with "DOWN IN FRONT" in the big house.
Of course, blackdream hates any kind of civility and told folks against the billboard to shut up. Arguably the biggest troll on that board, how he ever became a moderator is beyond me.

Talent level may have been down, but Michigan played well against the toughest teams. This team is young, very young and we have a lot of talent coming back. We also have some very good recruits coming in as well. Joe Dumars kid will be able to play next year as well.

As for talent on the current team, the two JR's talent wise are the weakest. If Harford can bulk up a bit as well as Smotrz, Michigan can put a big line up on the floor next year.

Morris 6-4 PG
Hardaway 6-5 SG
Horford 6-9 PF
Smotrz 6-9 SF
Morgan 6-8 C

The above is a big line up and it will be interesting to see how MI plays it next year. I think you have to look at it in this way, Did this team get better from the start of the year? I would say, Yes

BTW if Thad can get his guys to play with the intensity and focus they played with against Wis. Nobody will touch you guys in the tourney.

Good Luck

And lets not pretend there wouldn't be a massive number of neck sprains up north from your fan base diving into a huge daisy chain if you guys somehow made the NCAA tourney. I can hear the predictions of impending B10 domination...young team..etc,etc,etc now. All that would be missing is a strength coach.

HUH? Outside of the Big East there is no other conference that is better than the Big Ten. This is the toughest this conference has been in awhile, next year will be a down year for the league.

It's always fun to make fun of the weasel, but I have to admit that a #4 seed in the B10 is a pretty darn good finish for this lowly squad. Yeah, you're right, with one thing going against them, they could be #7 seed, but they're not.

I do, however, fully expect them to go back to fail very soon.

yep. just 5 points. heck, that's not that much of a difference. i mean, it's not as though malone averaged 25% more points per game than webber did.

edit: truth be told, malone averaged 21% more points per game than webber. 21%: a trifling amount.

I can't believe I missed this one (and the post it was referring to).

For the record I am 6'2" or 74 inches tall. A person 21% taller than me is 89.54 inches tall or a tick under 7'5".

So I actually agree with Wolverine Mike. If I am basically as tall as Manut Bol then Chris Webber was indeed in the same ballpark as Karl Malone.

They also benefited by only having to play Purdue and Illinois once.

Joe Dumars kid will be able to play next year as well.

He was able to play this year. It was UM's decision to redshirt him. So what does that tell you about next year?

I think you're a bit confused here, with all due respect. Ws against subpar competition (and continued Ls against good competition) don't necessarily mean the team's playing better. By my count, UM's still only beaten one tournament team this year, and that's being generous--MSU is squarely on the bubble and is in an absolute tailspin.

You realize they have the same conference record as the #7 seed, right? So I'm correct in saying that while on the one hand they've tied for #4 in the league this year, on the other hand they've also tied for #7 in the league this year--there's three teams better than them and 4 teams worse.

Harvard
Clemson

I think they both will get in.
