Army Bowl: Five programs that should be pleased

Not far behind is another national power in Ohio State and five-star defensive back Tyreke Johnson has been the headliner so far. Johnson has been a headhunter in two practice sessions and he even took out Ohio State tight end signee Jeremy Ruckert on Day 1 of practice. No one is safe across the middle with Johnson on the field. Ruckert has been solid and has shown off great athleticism. The defensive tackles have been really good as well. Four-star Taron Vincent has been consistently good and disruptive and four-star Tommy Togiai has been able to bull rush and shoot gaps with lots of success.

These "all star" games are so boring it's best to just DVR them and skip the slow ugly parts.
Agreed. I hardly watch most of them because they shoe you nothing about a player. It's like using a worse version of the Pro Bowl to see who the best NFL players are. And the early signing period has taken a lot of the press out of the event too. I'll just watch highlights and get a recap on BP

...skip the slow ugly parts.
There's nothing slow or ugly about it when you have the finest high school athletes in America facing off.

Since there isn’t a UA thread in sight, I’ll just add a general comment: I hope not to see some of the stooooooopod stuff in the AAA game as I’m seeing in the UA game.

Kid has a nice punt return and then punts the ball into the stands after he gets tackled. Auburn recruit I think.

Calling Red Forman... recruiting forum... grumble grumble grumble...

These games are pretty damn boring, but your resident BRPT high school all-american bowl analyst suffered through to bring you the goods:

DE Tyreke Smith: Really was dominant out there and was routinely getting to the QB in the backfield. Really great hands, plenty athletic and has a mean bull rush. Even slid down to DT and made some plays. These games are a showcase for DE's but you could not help but be impressed by his performance. I think he can contribute right away here.

DB Sevyn Banks: Had a fumble recovery on the first defensive play and never heard from him again...that is often a good thing for a DB, particularly when there were a lot of blown coverages in this game.

RB Brian Snead: Did not get a ton of PT but he looked really good in limited time. Makes decisions quickly, sees the hole and showed some real nice burst off of some delayed footwork on a counter (looked like LeVeon Bell on that run). I think he is going to be a stud here and many of us have forgot he was in this class.

DE Brenton Cox: Don't want to dwell on what could have been but man is he good...maybe the best defensive player out there. Going to be a force for UGA.

QB Emory Jones: Not that impressed on his performance to be honest...he has the arm strength but not really a great game and his mobility is average at best.

RB Maurice Washington: Was the best player in the game by far and incredibly electric and versatile. If there is any chance we could get back in on him, do it.

DE Eyabi Anoma: Bama commit at DE and I hate to say it, but one of the more impressive DE prospects I have seen...best DE in this game and just made plays everywhere.

S BJ Foster: We were in on him before he committed to Texas but man can he play...was just laying out people and making plays everywhere, will be a star in Austin.

- PS...game still annoys me to no end, I much prefer the Army AA Game, way less "swag" and players acting like idiots.

I'm with you. Never have liked this game and have watched in spurts just to see some OSU commits in action. Overall it definitely feels like watching an sec all-star showcase where kids are more concerned about showboating than anything else.

where is the UA Game thread anyway?

My two cents about a few Buckeye recruits:

Mitchell is a big dude, loves to lay the wood, and stil looks quick doing it @ nearly 250lbs already. Any possibility he eventually joins the rushmen or is he locked into MLB?

Smith was all over the place, in the backfield creating havoc, especially in the 1st half.

Anoma, the Bama DE commit, was by far the most impressive player in the entire game. Explosive 1st step and on top of the QB before he completed his drop on almost every snap. Non-stop motor, tracking guys 20-30 yards down the field on plays ran to the opposite side of the field. HE GOOD!

Washington put up the best numbers but that was a product of having the most touches. Becuase of injury issues, he carried the ball a ton for the "Highlight" squad. He was really good, not knocking him, but the DL's on both sides stole the show (which is typical during these All-Star Games).

I do agree that it's far less of a product than the AA Game.. Lots of show-boating, punting balls into the stands, personal fouls, punches being thrown...... things u don't typically see in the much classier AA Game that we'll see this weekend.
