U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

So, I mean... What did we learn? T&T has enough sack to take a game on short notice and get blasted when they have 3-4 guys actually playing in the last year?

Honestly, good for them

Lewis is interesting, I think he will get plenty of olympic run. Arriola is better than out of shape Trinidad guys? We probably knew that.

I wasn't focusing on anyone, but yueill didn't really stand out... And as much as they want to worry who is the 9... Maybe the least controversial staters in a game you need to win would be Adams at the 6 and McKennie at the 8 (if he doesn't move further upfield) but the backups there are kinda scary. Who is the 6 if Adams is dinged?

(I would argue Im less sure who the 10 is than the 9 as a group but I realize people think dumb things, and I am prepared for front 4 by committee)

It does suck about Morris - the only bright side is getting to see more of the young studs like Weak/Llanez/de la Fuente. So much young talent on the wings.

I guess. I'm of the opinion that we are at a "the future is now" kind of moment... Which is to say, if we don't know what you are, you're probably a contributor for the next cycle. Those guys you list there certainly are on the edge of maybe having breakthroughs to where they can make an impact. (And I hope they do!)

Weah may not be a wing these days, and I hope he gets a nice long run of good health, which he just hasn't had and I guess we will see how (and what) he does.

Uly Llanez out with an ankle...

Jackson Yueill is the Captain....

Notables (among others): Johnny Cardoso, Djordje Mihailovic, Sebastian Soto and more...

As to Musah.... I think the hope here is that he's as big a dual/multi-national get as John Brooks and Sergino Dest, who are foundational pieces. (It would seem that Berhalter sees him as an 8, and it seems like we're gonna do a dual 8 4-3-3, and my guess is he'll be contributing there, sooner rather than later... )

Though, part of me wonders if they don't give Musah some run on the wing too now that Morris is dinged.

This gets more technical that I probably have comfort for, but its not necessarily that easy to find the right kind of wing to play over top Dest if they leave him at RB (which I think they will -- I didn't suffer through Daniel Lovitz at LB so because they have all this depth over there) and I think if you have your RB depth as Yedlin, there's enough similarity of strength you probably can commit to that side being the extra number at the next level if not a true hybrid slide inside 4th MF.

Anyway, I think there's this weird universe where Gio moves inside and Musah becomes the width with Dest on the right and Pulisic then has a bunch more free reign on the left, and as a result you get more of a 10 out of Gio and one 8 (McKennie) - and you can fill that gap between the CF and RW going forward with the RB instead of having to have twin 8's.

Just sayin': I have a hard time watching soccer. Maybe Pelé is a "once in a millennium player" and it will be another 100 years or so before another player of his ability comes along; but it sure would be easier to watch if they had players that could do this (i.e. his legendary bicycle kick) today:

I had it on VHS, but I saw a kid do one that good in a HS game I was in.... It was off a corner kick, I remember clearly because I took the corner.
