Un-P.C. Way to Compliment Bucks

Discussion in 'Buckeye Football' started by JohnnyCockfight, Sep 15, 2004.

JohnnyCockfight Beer is God's proof that he loves us.

Pruett thinks the Buckeyes are warriors, only he doesn't have the Tressel-like diplomacy when handing out such compliments. I wonder how many people either knew this word to be offensive, and/or were actually offended by it.

    Pruett apologizes for comments

And it looks like Geiger is getting better with the press. "No comment" can be a very good thing.

Yet another group of retards that exist for the sole purpose to finding things to get offended about. Tibor is familiar with such persons in the message board world...

Bob Pruett is way far from a racist...if anything he just comes off looking like a clumsy goof trying to explain why his team, expecting to have a big season and moving to a bigger conference, is on its way to 0-3 (and he's not a clumsy goof either, he just kind of sounds like one)....I mean when in the blue hell was the last time you even HEARD anyone use "Mandingo" in any context? Dude, do yourself a favor, if you were talking about physical superiority, then say it, and keep Reverend Jackson somewhere else.

Just an unfortunate choice of words. A vocabulary malfunction. A slip up.

But by no means a racial slur. If he was like that, half of his team would bail out on him. He would be worse off if Goddard, Spann and crew thought he was a bigot.

I hate PC stuff. People get offended way too easily. It's all about intent.

Intent is not the only element to racism. Another aspect to racism is things that are ingrained into our society that we don't think of every day but are harmful nonetheless. The term "Mandingo" is an example of this. I don't think that Pruett should face punitive consequences for this, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't use this incident as an opportunity to improve upon this problem. Most white people probably don't even realize the historical context of the term. I'm sure that Pruett meant no malice by his comments, but that doesn't mean that they were not contextually inappropriate. The real problem here is that many people, Pruett included, didn't realize the social significance of the terminology he chose, and that is where some learning needs to take place. The USA Today article that was cited above does a great job of spelling everything out, and I'm sure if he was given an opportunity, Pruett would've chosen different words to describe the Buckeyes' football prowess.

Approximatley two years ago over in bucknuts, I was accused of being a racist and it really bothered me to think that one of our own buckeye fans would come down on me like he did. I vowed never to offer any comments or posts on that website again, but many others at the time told me to just think nothing of it. I sometimes wonder why we have to have this form of criticism in our society, especially in todays world.

Kippy - I have no idea what your conversation on Bnuts was about so I'm making some assumptions here, but here is my guess. You probably made a point that someone else couldn't debate with you using actual facts or logic so they turned to the race card to try and gain some power in the conversation. I think it's often used as a manipulation tool when nothing else is there.
