Powder Blue Helmets Coming Back to Ole Miss

After recruiting I guess Ole Miss didn't have the funds for a new chrome lid?

ND should never screw with their helmet. Stick with the traditional gold paint & lose the ridiculous mylar sticker. Green face mask...fine whatever, but don't ruin your important traditions for the sake of corporate whoring.

Still I have to admit I'm enjoying the hypocricy of the school that screams "No conference in football! Tradition! Tradition!!! TRADITION!!!!" throwing away tradition for the opportunity to get on all fours and scoop up some loose change that Adidas threw their way.

Yeah, I'd prefer the helmet stays untouched, I'm not against some uniform changes though if it isn't crazy. Theres definitely a large and vocal "blue hair" population of alumni that hate changing anything. It's one of the reasons theres no Jumbotron and they still use traditional grass. Blue hairs bark "tradition" and think Rockne would roll over in his grave if things were changed, but I don't think they realize that Knute was all for innovation.

My biggest issue with most of the goofy uniform stuff is that ultimately it doesn't benefit the Universities; rather it only serves to promote the shoe companies.

Want to update your uniform? Have at it!

But why let Nike force you into wearing the exact same uniform that they're putting on 25 other teams with only color changes, or goofy designs that don't have anything to do with your school? It's not like major Universities don't have graphic design departments full of talented students who would be thrilled to design something that represents their school.

Also...I miss natural grass. :(

I do agree that it benefits the shoe companies greatly, but I think it also brings some small recruiting bonuses. While ND only wears a unique uniform one game out of the year, word has always been that the recruits really like the change up and for the most part the designs (Even last year's awful Shamrock Series design apparently), despite a lot of the older fans that don't like the departure from the norm. While this does alienate a portion of the fan base I can see it as a measure to help bring new fans to the product.

I can't imagine a single recruit actually choosing a school based on fashion. That whole argument in favor of alternates is way overblown imo. I don't doubt some of the players think they're cool, but so what. Personally, in matters of tradition, I don't think current players feelings should trump lifelong fans and alumni. The current players don't have the same sense of tradition, yet. I'm sure current players would think Lil Wayne dotting the I was cool as well.
