University Athletic Departments Revenue & Spending

Well I guess now we know what Purdue is doing with their share.
It definitely hasn't been going to the revenue sports, and at just 18 it's not going to the other sports ... it's going back to the Academic side. I suppose things could be worse but smh
Ross - Ayde capacity is less than 60K and is scheduled for an overhaul. Attendance goes up and down over the seasons and ticket prices are much lower, plus they put the student section in the north end zone and between the 40s on the visitor side (he says, remembering fondly the 60s when he and other students could get tickets on the 50 in C 0 deck). The total dollar amount would not be a fair comparison, but the % of AD budget would be fair to look at. Frankly, I'm surprised Purdue makes money.

OHIO STATE ATHLETICS REPORTS MORE THAN $250 MILLION IN REVENUE FOR 2022 FISCAL YEAR

For the first time ever, Ohio State athletics generated more than $250 million in revenue in a single year.

In its annual financial report to the NCAA, which the university released on Thursday, Ohio State reported total operating revenues of $251,615,345 for the 2022 fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022. That eclipses the previous school record of $233,871,740 in revenue during the 2020 fiscal year.

Ohio State’s total operating expenses for the 2022 fiscal year were $225,733,418, giving the athletic department a net profit of more than $25 million for the year.

The record revenues for the 2022 fiscal year come after Ohio State brought in just $106,896,918 during the 2021 fiscal year due to athletic contests being held without fans during the 2020-21 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stating the obvious, but the top ten schools are (or soon will be) in either the B1G or SEC.

Full list:

It seems like data is only available for public universities. Would be interesting to see where University of Southern California ranks.

Going to end up with a North vs South 2 Conferences like the NFL. It'll have different divisions and then a College Super Bowl at the end every year. It's in its infancy at the moment but the groundwork is being done now by the BiG and SEC. I Can't stop seeing it so until I'm proven wrong I'm going with it. Where's that AI shit so I can spread it like a virus?

Call me crazy, but is #1 in expenses really a bragging right.
I guess orgs like this have a mandate to spend what they bring in, but it just seems counterintuitive to my small blue collar brain.
This is for all sports so given the number of sports and the fact only 1-2 of them are profitable the math checks out.

They also kick some back to the school after servicing all debt (facilities) if I am not mistaken
