(unofficial) Rose Bowl thread - USC vs. Texas (merged)

Defense still wins Championships
Well, now that it's set up, perhaps we can do some discussion on the game...

I'm as excited as the next college football fanatic to see these teams match up. It should make for a great game and I can't wait to watch it. I'm somewhat turned off, however, by the way they're already hyping this game. The ABC crew was talking about how it was the most anticipated matchup ever and that none of them could remember looking forward to such an intriguing Championship game.

The funny thing is that they were all saying the exact same thing last year, that USC vs. OU would be the greatest national championship game ever because they were the teams with multiple Heisman candidates and had so much talent and everyone wanted to see that matchup (we all know how that turned out). Fast forward to 2005 and it's the exact same scenario. Now I know it's their job to hype the game to get ratings up, but I found it... odd that they would say this in light of last year's debacle (and I wonder if they'll be saying the same thing next year and the year after that...)

IMO, the ideal scenario would be for Reggie Bush to win the Heisman, then Vince Young and Texas can come out and win the National Championship. Then the ONE-TIME defending national champs can get their streak snapped and hopefully Vince has done enough to warrant him forgoing his senior season, setting up an OSU win in Austin in 2006...

Oh, and OSU vs Miami was the greatest BCS National Championship game, so they're gonna be fighting for #2

I want Texas to win for two reasons...

1. I want tOSU to be the first and only College Football Back-to-Back-to-Back National Champs, when we do it with the first of the three coming next year
2. I want tOSU to beat the #1 Ranked and Defending National Champions next September in Austin.

USC by 21 and going away.........

Texas is a great team no doubt, but I think that come the late third quarter some big breaks will go USCs way and the whipping will begin!

Only one team has held Texas under 40 points this year and I don't think USC has the defense to be the second team to do so. Texas has a very good defense but after watching USC today I'm convinced they'll score at least 30-35 on UT. Both teams can run, pass, and have proven they can break a kick return for a touchdown... not much separates these two. This will definitely be a barnburner.

i dont think texas has the defense to stop all the playmakers USC has. i know texas is good, dont get me wrong, but i dont think any team in the country has enough talent to keep up with USC on offense. the same could be said about texas also(which we pretty much shut down) i believe the exact same thing will happen that happened last year and pete carroll, being the genius coach he is, will put a whooping on Texas

No disrespect intended towards SoCal, but I think Texas plays a smash mouth football game. They will HIT usc for the first time this year.

All this talk about USC's so-called unstoppable offense reminds me oh so much of that "vaunted" cryami team of a few years back.

I don't see either team running away with this.

UT-31
USC-24:wink2:
(score look familiar?)

HOOK 'EM!

I have no idea what will happen. I'd like to think Texas' defense will not give those gaping holes that Bush is used to running through. I'd also like to think that Texas will play a complete game like they did against Colorado. I do think it will be very close to the end & may be, who has the ball last, wins.TEXAS.......FIGHT. BTHO ND, Bucs !!
