The Buckeyes are now 7-0 and once again had to answer questions about the starting quarterback position.

The Buckeyes successfully hosted "Dark Night in The 'Shoe" rolling over Penn State 38-10. Interestingly enough, quarterback J.T. Barrett took snaps outside the red zone and revitalized a seemingly stalled offense in the second half. The team had only 114 passing yards on 13 completions, but fortunately, a ground and pound run offense is something Ohio State has in it's arsenal with Barrett under center.

Another week, just means another round of questions for Urban Meyer about who the starting quarterback should be -- even halfway through the season.

Future of the QB starting position

  • "Nothing is going to be announced," but Meyer will be sitting down with both quarterbacks later today to discuss the situation and make a decision moving forward.
  • After the first half, it was clear that a Cardale Jones-led offense wasn't going to be able to create as many opportunities against a tough Penn State defense.
  • When asked if Meyer knows in his head who should be the starter moving forward, "I have an idea, but I want to make sure it fits with everybody." Meyer also noted the offense ran best on Saturday than the rest of the season.
  • Urban Meyer defends making these types of choices and notes they aren't business decisions and taking into account player's feelings is considered more than people know. He does admit though that what's best for the team does come first.
  • Following the Maryland game, Meyer thought a two-quarterback system would work, but hesitated as though that changed after Saturday. Meyer is starting to see the same Barrett who set records last season.
The rest of the offense

  • Five receivers were injured or sidelined against Penn State, which led to some of the struggles on the passing game.
  • The offensive line impressed Meyer on Saturday; they were prepared to face one of the better defensive lines in college.
On young players earning playing time

  • Freshman linebacker Jerome Baker saw some game time and Meyer notes the next man to see some playing time will be K.J. Hill.
  • True freshman QB turned WR Torrance Gibson has faced some academic issues and didn't earn the right to dress against Penn State. He's "still on the team" but needs to step up on and off the field.
"Dark Night in The 'Shoe"

  • Meyer contends Saturday's game was "one of the best atmospheres I've ever been apart of ... extremely thankful to all involved."
  • Their offensive play and schemes against Penn State weren't ideal, but was specifically designed for game management against that style of defense.
Injuries

  • Tommy Schutt is out following wrist surgery on a broken bone, but should be back this season. Linebacker Joshua Perry is out following an ankle injury against Penn State.
