Value City Arena (official thread)

Nobody else except Matta and Tressel!
I know its been quiet at the Schott at Buckeye games....is it because of the seating thats been done the past couple of years (like student seating) ...I thought Gene Smith was supposed to change all that and try to make seating better so that games can be louder??

it's quiet because nobody cheers. even tonight, when there were probably 7,000 people, the place got pretty loud a few times (especially when the refs made horrible calls).

I do not believe Gene Smith ever promised anything... we hoped that he would move a student section down there. It may happen, but I don't think he's taken an official stance on the issue. hopefully I'm wrong.

This trend will change after this successful 05 season (and probable NCAA tourney berth), and especially with the hype of the incoming thad5.

Well right now there are just not a whole lot of people at the games, the student are home on break and the competition well it isnt top notch.

I believe that the talks are in the works to put the students on the floor which will be a very good think when it happens. To many people sitting on their hands. Once we get the students into the game the other folks will follow.

attendance was pretty good during the penn era, and for a few years following. I think it will return to that level, and likely surpass it with what matta brings to the program.

God, the '98-'99 season... When the Schott opened. I was in athletic band then (gotta love free tix ) and it was DEAFENING down there... such a change from St. John.

Maybe my viewpoint is not objective enough, but those games were about as fun for visitors as coming to, say, the Breslin center here in E. Lansing.... The intensity's better here, but the sheer NOISE of the Schott was impressive.

I was at the Norfolk St. game and had seats up at the top. On our way up to our seats, we passed a usher trading tickets for seats in the lower level, and we sat in sec.111 row p.

So it was a nice view and just glad TOSU did something like that for the fans.

BM06 - is that the Backstreet Boys in your avatar? Dude - gay...

I watched the VA Tech game on the deuce - I must admit the atmosphere came across as pretty lame. I presume with that many empty seats that tickets are fairly easy to obtain?

My avatar is a inside joke with someone, and yes it is gay..lol.

And I was surprised with the crowd that night, but what would you expect when its 15 degrees out on a Monday night playing Norfolk St.

P.s. Twigs dunk had everybody on their feet, so I know its in us buck fans to get loud when the situation calls for it.

I admit I'm a bad judge of numbers in a stadium, but 13,000 sounds awfully high to me. There were probably 500 people max in the upperdeck, and there were plenty of empty seats down below.

anyone else who was there care to wager an estimate?

i was there and their were more than 500 people in the upper deck. im pretty sure they arent going to flat out lie/make up a number how many people were there.
