Van Jefferson (WR Los Angeles Rams)

THREE SCHOOLS AT TOP OF VAN JEFFERSON'S LIST
Ravenwood wide receiver Van Jefferson has narrowed his choices to six schools, but Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio State are at the top of his list.

"As of right now I'm just looking at pretty much three schools and that's Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio State," Jefferson said. "Those are probably my three right now that I've narrowed it down to. Schools I'm still looking at probably would be Ole Miss, Florida and Michigan State."

Jefferson said Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio State are even.

"I've been to all three of them," Jefferson said. "I love Tennessee a lot, I love Georgia, I love Ohio State so all three of them are pretty good."

Jefferson plans to take an unofficial visit to Ohio State on July 16.

The 6-foot-2, 176 pound rising senior is ranked as the state's No. 2 prospect by 247 Sports. He is ranked ninth nationally at wide receiver.

Jefferson would like to make his decision during summer break or during the first week of school in August.

"It's very hard," Jefferson said. "You get all these offers and you like all the schools, and they treat you very well on the visits. You build relationships with the coaches throughout the visits. But you've got to pick the school that's going to help you succeed the most."

Jefferson caught 81 passes for 1,231 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.

The son of Titans receivers coach and former NFL receiver Shawn Jefferson has more than a dozen offers.

Jefferson was ranked 10 out of 10 in route running by 247 Sports and he has been clocked in the high 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash.

He leaves Monday to compete against the nation's top prospects at The Opening at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. The four-day camp runs until Thursday.

"I can't wait to go out there to compete with some of the top guys in the country and hopefully come back as the No. 1 receiver in the country," Jefferson said. "I can't wait to go out there and show my talents off and hopefully see what I can do out there. Going out there will be a big test for me."

Columbia tight end Jackson Harris, Ensworth defensive back Rico McGraw, Oakland linebacker Josh Smith and former Brentwood Academy receiver C.J. Sanders (Notre Dame, Calif.) also are competing in The Opening.

Jefferson and Smith will be in the Ravenwood 7-onn-7 passing tournament on July 12.

Van Jefferson's Ohio State Visit Confirmed
Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood wide receiver Van Jefferson will soon visit Ohio State again. Last week Jefferson's mother Marla said her son would likely visit Ohio State on July 16, but the visit still needed to be confirmed with the Ohio State coaching staff.

That visit is now confirmed.

"Yes, we're confirmed for the 16th," Marla texted. "So excited for Van!"

Jefferson will be accompanied on the visit by Marla and Van's father Shawn.

Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia are considered the top three contenders for the 6-foot-2 and 180-pound Jefferson who would like to make his college choice before the end of the summer.

Jefferson is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings. He is the country's No. 99 prospect, the No. 9 wide receiver, and the No. 2 prospect in Tennessee.

THE OPENING: VAN JEFFERSON
Van Jefferson has had commitment on his mind before. He has been close on more than one occasion and he almost committed to two different schools, but he has held off to make sure of his decision.

His birthday is July 26 and that could be the day he does decide to announce his college choice, but only if he is ready.

It is down to three schools and he is closing in on ending the recruiting process.

"If I am ready to commit on my birthday, then I definitely will," said Jefferson. "If I am not, I will wait a little longer. I see myself committing before the season though for sure."

Jefferson was almost a Buckeye at one time, then even closer to becoming a Volunteer. It is down to those two and one more for the Scout 300 wideout.

"There is no order, but I am looking at Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee. It will be one of those schools for me when I commit.

"I am going back to Ohio State July 16 and I will be visiting Georgia again that next week.

"I have been to all three schools before and each was pretty impressive. It was Ohio State I almost committed to first, then Tennessee, so I am not far from making a decision."

At the end of the day, the 6-foot-2, 175 pound wideout from Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood just wants to play on Sundays. He is looking for the school that could help him the most with fulfilling that dream.

"Ohio State likes to grind and I have loved them since watching Ted Ginn and Troy Smith play as a kid," said Jefferson. "Tennessee is an in-state school and it is a great environment there. Coach [Butch] Jones treats me like a son already.

"Georgia has a great head coach in Mark Richt and the coaches there are great and down to earth.

"I know it will be a tough decision, but these next couple of visits will be very big for me. I will be ready to commit after that."

Jefferson is the No. 26 wide receiver and No. 204 overall prospect on Scout.

Looks like us or Tennessee but really don't know on this. Says he wants to play on Sundays and I think us or Georgia will provide that opportunity.
I think a big question he (and/or his family) had was how Ohio State's offense utilized its receivers and presumably by extension how well it prepared them for the NFL.

Ohio State either answered those questions with stuff like this:

or he is probably going somewhere else.
