Vince Young (unemployed)

before the bowls vince was the highest rated passer in the nation. The college ratings(i have been told any way) are skewed towards Yards/completion and touchdowns. neither of those were very good for vince in the rose bowl. believe it or not 30-40 for 267 hurt vince. that along with the fact that the kid from az st. now had enough games to qualify for the national rankings. he stepped in half way through the year when their starter went down.

That's what I was thinking. In addition to playing enough games to qualify, Carpenter also threw for 467 yards and 4 touchdowns in the bowl

I may be wrong, but I think VY did have the highest efficiency rating before the bowl games.

I don't understand the rating system fully, but I would not be surprised if his rating did drop after the Rose Bowl due to his lack of touchdown passes in the game.

You may be right. It is a little funny the way it works out. It seems the Louisville QB didn't even play in the bowl game but played 10 games during the year. The Arizona St. QB only played nine games during the year but did throw 4 touchdowns in the bowl game. So I'm not sure how the combo of some playing and some not affected the stats that were previously held before bowl games. By the way, here's how it is calculated:http://football.stassen.com/pass-eff/

Vince Young:
Before the Rose Bowl:
182-285 for 2769 yds, 26 td, 10 int ---168.56

After the Rose Bowl:
212-325 for 3036 yds, 26 td, 10 int ---163.95

EDIT - Rudy Carpenter:
Before bowl:
133-193, 1806 yds, 13 td, 2 int ---167.67
After bowl:
156-228, 2273 yds, 17 tc, 2 int ---175.01

VY was number 1 prior to the Rose Bowl, Carpenter passed him with his performance.

It's also true that Carpenter didn't have enough numbers before his Bowl game to be in the official rankings.

It's interesting that neither Michael Robinson nor Brett Basanez is in the top-25. They got a lot more media attention than Troy Smith did this year. With VY leaving, Troy looks like a top-5 Heisman candidate next year.

Vince Young Giving the Buckeyes Props

Vince was on the radio station in Houston this morning giving the Buckeyes major Props..

He said that "Hawk" was really good, showed nothing but respect to him; and then was asked if USC was tougher than OSU, he just laughed like...why are you asking such a stupid question..

Though you all might like to listen.

the Links

The second link he talks about Hawk
The third link the SC question is asked.

Damnit, the links don't work whether I save it or open it. Nice to see VY give us props.

Edit-nevermind.

It was cool he said Ohio St. was the best team he played against. USC had a great offense but look at their competition. They played 2 WAC teams, a crappy SEC team, a crappy Irish defense, and the worst conference when it comes to defenses. You could lower their scoring avg. 10 pts. and a 100 yards if they played in the Big-10. Troy Smith looks like he'll be next year's Vince Young but better. I think Troy is the better passer and Vince is the better runner.

I'll admit openly that I doubted VY coming into this season. I knew he had a big game against scUM, but I thought that was a fluke against a mediocre/bad scUM defense. When Sept 10th rolled around, I was unimpressed in the first half, but the poise he showed as the game rolled along, and when he threaded that needle to Sweed...I became a believer. I became a fan from that game on. I do believe that Bush deserved the Heisman WHEN HE WON IT, but after the Rose Bowl, Vince was clearly the best player in the country. Hopefully Troy can go down to Austin and win the same respect from the Longhorn faithful that Vince has gained from us. :osu:
