(AP) -- San Diego Padres minor leaguer Tagg Bozied was carted off the field after he injured his left knee celebrating his game-winning grand slam Monday night. Bozied jumped on home plate to end Portland's 8-5 win over Tacoma and immediately went down at the feet of his teammates. The crowd of 2,982 went silent as Bozied lay motionless. He was taken to a hospital. Team spokesman Chris Metz said in a statement that Bozied ruptured the patella tendon in his left knee. Bozied will fly to San Diego on Tuesday where he will undergo season-ending surgery.

Bozied is expected to be out of action for six months.

The shaken Beavers closed the clubhouse after the game. Bozied, who played in college at the University of San Francisco, has 16 homers this season with the Beavers, a Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres in the Pacific Coast League. He was taken in the third round of the 2001 baseball draft.
