We're back (downtime 9/20/11)

FYI, this thread has a timestamp for a post that doesn't show on its last page. I don't know if that's just a burp from the downtime, or an indication of some remaining problems.

BP.Miami.game.thread

Someone may have been posting there as the crash happened. Should just be a curious artifact and not necessarily indicative of a bigger problem. Going to post in there now to see if that cleans it up.

--edit--
Yeah, that post never fully hit the database as it came right as the crash began. Proper timestamp there now that I posted. If you see something similar elsewhere, it's just a cosmetic artifact of the crash. The database was being written to when the crash happened, and there was a lot of corruption I had to clean up afterwards. So those posts were partially lost (the post was lost in this case but the table that records the timestamp was not). Anyway, thanks and sharp eye.

How did you repair this?

Gasoline and matches. vBulletin has built in repair tools, but those failed spectacularly. Today it took going into mySQL and identifying the crashed and corrupted tables there and running repair processes there. It appears only one post was lost as part of this process (as noted above). The corruption was the result of the server issue, and hopefully the server issue was a one-and-done, rather than something that will occur again. If it does reoccur, we'll figure it out.

Is this why the TSUN Shenanigans thread was stuck at the bottom of my User CP regardless of how many times I clicked on it?

I'm not sure what that means (what it was doing, exactly), but probably. If that was undesirable behavior that was happening any time around 2pm ET, than yes, almost certainly. As long as it's not happening now (and everything appears to be running as intended) then we're good to go.

There was just about 45 minutes or so after we came back up post-crash where I was still working on the databases and some related errors -- so anything going on in that window was directly attributable to the event.

This was 4 or 5 days ago it was happening to me.

It's no longer happening?

Hasn't happened since.

The thread would never "record" that I went in and viewed it. It would continually take me back to the same post as if that was where I had left off the last time I visited the thread. I can point you to the exact post where it "froze" if that helps...
