West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

well

guys thanks for the congrats on my mountaineers landing gwaltney

there have been a few on here who run their mouths a bit, no biggy we all have them..but if you are going to cut on a state, at least come up with something more original than toothless, inbred, rednecks and the like, it is way overplayed much like a crack streetwhore on 33 downtown columbus..
and there is plenty to do in morgantown, you just have to know where to look

usc isn't in that bad of shape for rb's, the next class 2006..they have moline coming in and if you know anything about moline he is a beast as well

on the very first page i told you a bit about gwaltney, wvu started the process when he was a freshman, we told his coach that jason had a scholarship waiting on him when the time came, one of his best friends in high school is the younger brother of a former wvu wr and they all 3 talk wv all of the time, he has seen and talked to amos zereoue one of the long island rb's whose records he shattered, he has talked to the other former wvu rb's cobourne, wilson, harris, zereoue..his father also likes wvu and has told jason that if you want to get into the nfl wvu has put a lot of backs in the nfl

he will be able to gain yards in our scheme, we haven't been in the top 10 rushing in the last years for nothing,

and we are ecstatic to be gaining gwaltney

the other rb's which we got, ovid a 3 star rb will be a lb, jetavious best will be a slot wr kr/pr, steve slaton will get a shot at rb as well, just because you played a position in high school doesn't always mean that is what you will play in college you guys should know that, and besides we were going after the best athletes we could get, and those are often either the qb, rb, or wr

good luck to the bucks next year, hopefully nothing drastic comes out of the clouds above columbus

Yeah, maybe, but both Collington and Slaton committed after Gwaltney backed out of his commitment and basically said that he was not going to WVU under any circumstances. I'd bet that neither of them is too happy right now. But hey, I'm sure you'll find room for them all somewhere....

I wish JG well......but he played SC and OSU so bad.....he even let PC know last night he was still going to SC......He was having fun with the sites, fine...but to do that to coaches is wrong.....

BTW, the comment where PC said he was making a mistake....he was making a mistake.....WVU did some serious negative recruiting toward SC and OSU....He said he was making a mistake because he told PC he was coming yesterday....He chose a school that is terrible when it comes to the books and a 2nd rate program......WHY, because WVU made him think USC and OSU weren't good schools ect......

Just my opinion, it's not sour grapes, it's just the negative recruiting is getting old.

well

brandon barrett may end up being more trouble than what he is worth
getting caught with some weed and what not, so you guys really didn't lose out anything on him, truth is not a whole lot of people at morgantown are even sure he will be doing anything at all

Wstripes, thanks for your input throughout this year's recruiting sagas. I think in this case, you and others were misled just as HH was during McCoy's recruitment. I don't think there was any ill intent on the part of Jason. It is just tough sometimes for young men like him to say no to someone that he had obviously formed a strong bond and gained respect for. I think Nevada was right on is stating no one could be certain of the decision until it was announced.

How do you think this impacts SC's depth at RB? I've heard that it is not a given that Washington plays next season. So you guys are basically left with White and Bush. Both may leave after next season, and that really puts SC in a tough spot. Do you have any objections to SC's philosophy of targeting this one or two elite guys (first Wells, then Gwaltney) and no one else?

I agree while I wish him well and it is a small victory that he didn't go to USC, the things he said were important to him he isn't going to get at WVU. No big games, no chance at a national title and while he still can make it to the pros I think the attention he would've gotten at either school would'v ebeen helpful.

I agree totally.....

No cheap shots from me here, I'm glad that the fiasco is over. Best of luck to Gwaltney, I'd be lieing if I said that I didn't want him at OSU, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. I'm still feeling very good about our situation, and I think that Maurice Wells is ready to prove to us all that Gwaltney will be an afterthought by fall of 2005.
I just looked at the WVU roster, there is no one that I think can beat him out. Good luck Jason! I'm looking forward to getting Wells next year, it's a blessing. I'm disappointed but I think we will be just fine with Wells, Pittman, Haw, and Anderson!

No, not really. We did have interest at some point in others, but Gwaltney was our guy and the staff thought we had him. I don't think PC&co should chnage their philosophy over one recruit

This is a post from a poster on our board that I completely agree with...I'm not pissed at him, don't like how he called out PC

The dude plays our staff...verbally commits in a very public, emphatic manner at Papadakis Taverna...

repeatedly lies to our coaches.....

publicly critizes our offense in the Orange Bowl for not running enough....

publicly calls out a journalist (calling him a liar) who wrote a true story about his choice of schools....

and, at the end of the day, turns down offers from two of the great universities in America (Ohio State and USC) to go to a school on par academically with La Verne that's located in the armpitt of America.

And, now everybody is falling over themselves wishing this kid good luck.

Damn....

Wish Ekom Udofia good luck. That kid wanted badly to go to SC, and would probably have come even though he had an full ride at Stanford (of all places), except that we stopped recruiting him after he got hurt. And then, when PC makes a last minute effort to win him over anyway, Udofia seriously considers it, but decides that a full ride from a Stanford team that has stuck with him from the word go is too hard to pass up.

Or, wish good luck to kids like Adrian McCovey and Brandis Drew, great football players that would die to go to SC, but we don't have the numbers to take them.

But, Gwaltney??? No way.
