Western Conf Final: Wings-Hawks

Both goalies played great tonight - good game to watch.

Congrats to the Wings. They were the better team.

Having said that, I hope the Pens wipe the ice with 'em.

It all depends on how healthy the Red Wings can get between now and Saturday.

If Datsyuk, Lidstrom and Ericcson come back in any way anywhere near their usual level, the Wings will have the better team. I think Draper actually has a torn groin and it out the rest of the playoffs.

However, I think the end of this series has shown everyone that the Wings depth can't be matched so even if one or two of them is out, the series will still be pretty damned good. True having Ericsson and Lidstrom instead of Chelios and Meech is a BIG advantage, but even just having Ericsson back would be huge and he will be back.

I've maintained that the west is much better than the east all year long and I cant' say I'm going to change right now either.

Wings in 6.

The key is Lidstrom's health

Great game. How anyone could watch that and not love the sport, I don't know. That save by Huet at the end was unbelievable. Perhaps not as good as Varlamov's stop on Sid, but given the context of when Huet made it.....jesus.

Ho hum. Detroit playing seriously short-handed. It must be tough to only win 2-1 playing without Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Ericsson, and Zetterberg......wait...what? Zetterberg was playing? Are you certain? Huh.

Man, Hossa was a monster tonight.

Looks like we're playing Saturday AND Sunday. I hate that.

NHL is crazy with their schedule, mainly due to their crappy tv contract. All playoffs long teams have to wait 2 and 3 days to play again. Now that it's the finals NBC wants two games so they have to play on back to back days.

This actually helps the Pens. The sooner the games, and the more of them the better for the Pens with Datsyuk and Lidstrom hurting.

Yeah though it can work in the RedWings favor if they start the series like last year and get in the penguins head they don't have a day to get over it. Still a back to back in the finals is horrid. Bettman should grow a spine and tell the networks no.

Good luck to you, Wings fans (not really). Your team earned this one.

Tonight's game was an amazing effort from two teams not at their best. It was a shame that great players missed so much time in this series.

As for the Hawks being a pain for the next decade, we will see. They need some shrewd cap maneuvering here in the next 3-4 years if they want to keep the nucleus together. Hopefully Stan and Scottie along with Fail Tallon will push the right buttons but I'm guessing that at least 1 good young player (Kris Versteeg would be my guess) is elsewhere next year.
