Definitely getting Xbox One. Never been a PS fan, and never will be. I'm still using first gen XBox 360 with a whopping 12GB HD...and yes i got this at the original release. At this point in my life, I don't have a lot of time for gaming, so when i do get to play i want some Halo, sports games, or other RPG type games (Skyrim, Assassin's Creed). So from that list, i can get all the games on either platform except Halo. Also, I want something that has Netflix, HBO GO, and other integration built it.

I do think PS4 is going to kick XBox One in sales for about the first 1.5-2 years just because of sale price and all the bad rep it went through at first. I eventually think the XBox will take control again, just like it seems to always do. People will realize the exclusive games are awesome, but the main thing that will drive people towards XBox is all the integration they will gave 1-2+ years down the road. They already have all the Windows 8 integration where you can use Smartglass, tablets, phone, etc to enhance gameplay and experience. Microsoft also announced the partnership with the NFL to bring a "brand new experience" to watching NFL games. You know Microsoft is going to expand those partnerships to other sporting worlds, and industries. Microsoft has a lot more pull in the world of technology than Sony does just because of what they can offer with Windows 8. XBox Live is also much better than anything Sony can currently offer, and that is not changing anytime in the future.

I'm not saying the PS4 will be any less inferior; I'm sure it will be equal, if not better than the Xbox in terms of graphics, processing, etc. In years to come, Microsoft will make the XBox something we haven't seen before while the PS4 will just be a gaming machine with bluray player and internet access.

Just my 2 cents.

Playstation 2 is the best selling console of all time, so it goes without saying that PS2 blew the original XBox out of the water.

What's slightly less known is that PS3 has also sold more consoles than the XBox360.

So I don't know where you get the idea that XBox has ever had control.

This article says otherwise. Seems pretty even to me. Not that I give a fuck anyway, but it comes down to personal preference.

As of March 31, the most recent numbers I could find, ps3 has sold roughly 1 million more consoles. Also keep in mind that the ps3 came out a year later than the 360.

The numbers are about dead even as of last week. PS3 will wind up ahead by several million units once both have run their course on the back of continued exclusive development [The Last of Us launched with over 1.1m units in sales in its first week] which is an area where Sony should always have a huge lead over Microsoft.

PS3 sales:
North America 26.75
Europe 31.08
Japan 9.34
Other 10.65
TOTAL 77.82

X360 sales:
North America 44.07
Europe 24.27
Japan 1.64
Other 7.63
TOTAL 77.61

As for next gen, what it's really going to come down to is the exclusives since Microsoft will not have a built-in lead with existing CoD players on Live! subs. Halo, Gears, Forza, and Fable vs Gran Turismo, Uncharted, God of War, and Metal Gear Solid.

If Sony doesn't screw this up a second time around and does something really smart like get a Little Big Planet platform bundle out for Christmas they could steamroll. Of course, the problem is I have no faith in Sony to do anything that resembles making a smart business decision, which makes the fact Microsoft has fumbled the XB ONE reveal so badly all the more hilarious.

Because it has trailed for its entire life span until last month. Of course both are decimated by the original wii sales, which only emphasizes how inexcusable the game title support is for the system. Then again I suppose they are laughing and swimming in their vault of gold.

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/250980/playstation-3-lifetime-sales-overtakes-the-xbox-360/
After more than six years of playing catch up, lifetime PlayStation 3 sales have passed lifetime Xbox 360 sales to become the second bestselling home console for the seventh generation. According to VGChartz latest sales data the PlayStation 3 has sold 77,313,472 units to date, while the Xbox 360 has sold 77,311,669 units.

The PlayStation 3 first launched on November 11, 2006, nearly one year after the Xbox 360, which launched on November 22, 2005.

The gap was just over five million units when the PlayStation 3 launched, but it grew to more than eight million units as the PlayStation 3 struggled to take off when it first launched. However, after the first console redesign, price cuts and major software releases the PlayStation 3 started outselling the Xbox 360 on a weekly basis.

In 2010, the PlayStation 3 managed to catch up by 600,000 units and in 2011 by nearly 900,000 units. In 2012, the PlayStation 3 sold 12.73 million units, while the Xbox 360 managed to sell 11.10 million units. In just the first five months of 2013 the PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by one million units.

The Wii, the bestselling home console for the seventh generation, is 22.35 million units ahead of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the PlayStation 3 has caught up by 2.50 million units in just five months.

I'd be interested to know exactly how many 360 model S sales were for direct replacement of previous gen 360s that suffered multiple RRoD failures. While entirely anecdotal, every person I know (except one) that owned a 360 eventually wound up buying at least two over the last seven years. I imagine the actual number is not insignificant. There are certainly a lot of dead 360 core/arcade/elite first gens in landfills and the bottom of closets. One guy I work with has four or five of them that he cannibalizes for parts to maintain his original now franken-360.

For arguments sake, if the failure rate of the original PS3 was 4-5% while the failure rate of the original 360 had been in the 8-10% range, a 5% variance in replacement purchases could account for up to a 4m unit difference in PS3s lead.

Interesting question. I would guess that your percentage was very forgiving and undersold the prevalence of early 360s getting the dreaded rings of death.

I leave my late generation Xbox (09? 10? The black finish with the angled airflow lines) on all of the time, largely because I forget it is on it is so quiet (with discs installed to the hd). Why it took so many years to produce a durable console is another matter. The original Xbox was a tank.

Remember MGS is now being released for the Xbox too. M$ should have an advantage in the US, but Sony should have an advantage worldwide. Just like this last generation.

Finding out that Arkham Origins isn't likely to come out for the next gen, between that and GTA V I may hold off on the PS4 till late spring. Sucks it would have been awesome to see what developers could have done with those 2 games had they had enough time to get them on the new hardware

That's precisely why I will eventually get a PS4. I anticipate that just like in this generation, those are the functions that these machines will do best and the other
features will be handled better by other devices or services. I will be waiting a while to buy though. These days I really only play FIFA and TES games, meaning there won't even be a game that I care about on the new machine for almost a year after launch.

They had an ad running at Lennox before Man of Steel about the XboxOne. Facial recognition is automatic? Really? Creepy. The built in, always on camera thing is unnerving.

Just imagine if you get freaky in that room...
