I'm about 2/3 done with the second book of the Fifty Shades of Grey series. They're more entertaining than I thought, although parts are, of course, very chick-oriented. It's female pron fantasy, but parts of it (the emails they exchange in particular) are pretty funny.

Not sure I'd recommend it to anyone. It's good enough, the sex scenes aren't a bother (although there are too many of them), but we're not talking Pulitzer-worthy stuff here. It's a diversion.

Figured I'd get a response like that. I may have been the one to post it if someone else had written what I wrote.

A decent parallel to Fifty Shades is Sleepless in Seattle, specifically the Dirty Dozen scene:

While the majority of Sleepless is chick stuff, there's enough guy stuff to make it palatable. Same goes for Fifty Shades.

I've never seen Sleepless in Seattle, and that scene certainly doesn't compel me to. I'll just stick with watching the Dirty Dozen.

Good read! Lila left something to be desired though.

While I had heard of it previously I didn't really become interested in it until I read Niven/Pournelle's Lucifer Hammer where it was mentioned. Of course that was when I was around 10, so it doesn't really count as coming onto it late in life.
