What IS Vegas thinking?

CowboyJD

Rookie
Given the recent history of our respective teams during the regular season, I would have sworn that tOSU would be favored over my Pokes.

I also wish we would have been the 'Dog. We seem to do better in that role.

The over may be the best bet in this game, if you are betting inclined. I'm too superstitious to even think about it with my team. I also, realize I look at the world through orange colored lenses. I sure think, however, that we'll have problems with the spread offense tOSU has started using and believe V-Mo (Vernand Morency), Eliot and the Donovan brothers will get their fair share too. It could be a real shootout with the last team on offense winning the game.

So do you guys have any thoughts about the line coming out at OkState -1.5?

Also, I apologize in advance if point spreads, etc. are a taboo topic here. I looked for any notice/FAQ indicating before I posted, but didn't see anything. Admins please delete if that is the case.

We've been the dog in most of the games we played this year (at least in the second half of the season).

Us and a shoot-out is unlikely... we aren't exactly a mega point generating team. For our sake I hope it is a low scoring game, or we're more than likely in trouble.

I frankly thought we would be the dogs by 2.5 or 3.0... guess we're getting more respect than I thought we would. :wink2:

That's what many on this board were saying just before Nov 20th...

Mili,

I hope I'm wrong... It's nice to see us score a few TD's (actually, I don't really care how many points we score so long as we win  )... I don't count the scUM game when looking at how good OSU or scUM is... In that game, all bets are off, it doesn't matter who is favored... it's a slug fest, and isn't typical of the other games...

Then again, we seemed to turn up the heat on K-State last year... so it might be a bowl thing for the bucks

The line is set that way because it will bring in the most money... eventually Ohio State will be favored... that's the way the lines work.
If that happens (a swing from dog to favorite), Vegas really risks getting "middled" in a very close game and paying both sides.

Vegas sometimes places a line to generate bets....but only if they feel strongly about one side or the other. They just as often place the line to even out the bets and take their vig. How it moves (if it moves) is, however, often a sign of who's betting where.

Your guys looked awfully good against Miss-again (sorry, I don't have the common insulting names you guys use for Michigan....I'll be happy to use them if you'll let me know what they are.....I have plenty for Oklahoma University though :wink2: ). We don't get to see you every week down here, but I was impressed.

dont worry about taboo stuff, if it is a mod will zap it they are very very resonible and it its not flat out harsh or attacking a recruit/player without a real basis its usually fair game

as far as the line, i dont put much stock into it until the last week and i see how it moves, the pros gamble thurs, fri and sat morning, thats when the big $$$$$$ comes in

Vegas is ephemeral...especially where Bucks are concerned when we are (Dogs).

Our biggest assest in bowl season is Jim Tressel's ability to create good gameplans. See: Miami '02 (17pt dogs), KState, destroyer of Oklahoma '03 (10 pt dogs), now Oklahoma State, worthy opponent '04 (2 pt dogs).

I'm relieved.

Vegas simply thinks the points we scored against scUM was a fluke. I hope that's not the case (that it was a fluke). However, I would not bet the game because I'd be betting against a 4 season long trend. Or you could look at it that JT learned his lesson in the 2002 Outback Bowl having won the 2003 and 2004 Fiesta's and bet that trend. Frankly win, lose or draw I just want to be entertained. If we play a wide open offense and lose, so be it, but I don't want to see a bunch of first down runs by Lydel Ross off right guard.

Style points for the use of "ephemeral"

And there was no "like" or "dude" anywhere in your response

See, buckeye fever can even make a California boy sound credible

Sorry, I have a bunch of "beach" co-workers who laughed at Katzenmoyer taking golf but took classes like beach volleyball and surfing and sand management

Good to see the Buckeye Nation stretch out to Leinart Lovers Land

Forget Vegas, just about every "expert" out there (except Trevor Dodd at CBSSportsline) has the Buckeyes as underdogs. This is predictable given our lack of offense this year and our surprising ability to let everyone run right through us this year.

Last year, we were underdogs with K-State, but we mustn't forget the controversy before the game and how it affected their play, especially in the first quarter. I think we would have beaten them anyway but it would have been much more of a nail biter. As regards UM, let's be honest, even WE didn't think we had that offense. Wisdom would tell you that, give them tapes of that and we wouldn't have had the first touchdown. OkState has those tapes!

So, OkState fans, what you're betting is who shows up. The team that lost to Northwestern or the guys that ripped UM. We'd like to think the latter. We'd like to think that the team has grown and "finally clicked". On the other hand, maybe it WAS just a high for UM and our offense still sucks.
