What OL do we land this year (2004)?

Another guy to remember from next year's class is AJ Haas. Duane has him highly rated in the last OFS and supposedly he's already considered a Buckeye lean. Hopefully we can finish strong with this class and continue it next year. We certainly look to be solid at almost every other position.

Edit: As far as next years o-line goes Sims and Mangold are obvious starters. I think Mike Kne and Adam Olds will be starters as well and that leaves one spot to fill. RJ Coleman, Tim Schafer, Andree Tyree, Dough Datish, TJ Downing, Rehring, Person, and Skinner should provide good depth. Person is one kid who might be able to contribute right away but it's hard to project a freshmen o-lineman into the starting lineup. I don't think the cupboard is as bare as some think but there will definitely be some inexperience up front.

Any news on Datish? I thought he was suppose to one of those that could step right in, or at least be no more than a year away.
We are solid everywhere else. The defense is EXTREMELY deep.
David Patterson will be an animal and I look for him to either start or at least get a lot of playing time next year.

Apparently Datish is having a lot of trouble with pass blocking. It's still early on though and hopefully he will develop. I was impressed with his conditioning at practice this summer. He is the only guy who came close to keeping up with Stepanovich during sprints.

There are also some DL that could be moved should we need them on the OL (granted if we do that the kids who move will prob. need at least a year to get the plays/blocking schemes down)... the name that I think could move is Sian Cotton... I know he doesn't want to, but with the depth at DT, the ability to get some playing time might sway him to OL.... just a thought...

Datish is a geat run blocker... his pass blocking needs improvement (evidently they didn't pass block too often at his HS, so he is getting the basic technique as well as schemes (sp) down... if he continues to improve in this area, he could find himself a starter next year... I'm also of the impression that Coleman is comming along nicely, so he might be an option as well...

With the rotation we like to use on the D-line I don't see Cotton or Maupin moving. Anderson, Scott, and Smith are graduating and Fraser only has one more year and we are not really in on many big time d-line recruits. We are going to need these guys on the defensive side, IMO.

I guess we can add Izzy Bauta to the list of possible recruits. I remember his name on the BN board a while back but didn't give him a whole lot of consideration. Must be a player considering the guys in state without offers :nerd:

I wouldn't worry about how many stars a guy has by his name or which top x lists he shows up on. They will only take guys they think can be made into contributors. I'm confident that the OL will see steady improvement much like what we are seeing this year.

After reading helpinghand's post on Bucknuts today it looks like Claude will be a Buckeye. hh has been right about everything else up until this point. It makes you wonder who the guy really is :nerd:

no doubt about Clebert and Mom- Mom has been interested in LSU for awhile so it seems like they are the main competition (I don't see him getting a scUM2 offer) and Clebert seems more interested in scUM2 than Jacky does but either would be great addition
I would like one more outstanding LB to go with Marcus in this class- whether that is Mom, Estopian (sp?), Bryant etc..

Lots of possibilities

For what I'd guess are three or four spots along the OL or DT.

Mitchum - things still sounding good.

Rutledge - haven't heard he was offered but he did visit unofficially.

Bauta - has an offer. Was he here for Purdue? How did it go?

Cadogen - visited for Purdue. Would we offer? Have we? Would he switch his commitment?

Hart - Has he scheduled a visit?

Incarnato - Recent noise about contact has died down and it seems we are not pursuing.

Pino - Haven't heard anything since he cancelled his visit early in the year but Rivals still lists him. Is it an ommision or does $Bill know something about Pino?

Feliciano - no news lately. We still after him?

Gallimore - heard we haven't contacted him in weeks. Did we drop him?

Claude - things sound pretty good but will he qualify?

Zuttah - Nutty says things have cooled.

Atkins - I think we will get a visit.

Nick Smith - Ours if we offer?

Braxton - Forgot him and had to go back and add. Maybe the Bucks forgot about him as well.

I'm sure there a couple guys that aren't on the radar yet. Anybody else you know of?

Mitchum - Things are looking good with him.

Cadogen - If we offer most think he will commit ala Frost last year.

Hart - He's maintained all along he will visit. I think it's us or South Carolina.

Feliciano - In an update on Rivals last night he said he is visiting Columbus.

Gallimore - I think our coaches know he's headed to scUM.

Claude - I didn't realize there was an issue with his grades. According to helpinghand we're in good shape. I tend to believe him.

Zuttah - I have not heard from Jeremy in a while. That doesn't have to be a bad sign but between that and Ohio State dropping on his list I am less confident about him.

Nick Smith - I don't think there is any doubt he's a Buckeye if offered.

I think you could be right on -

Mitchum- looks pretty good for us

Claude- based on HH's commentary it seems he is leaning to us

the third guys seems more elusive- it sounds like any of the group of Bauta, Rutledge, Feliciano, Zuttah

I think Hart goes to USC but I would love to have him

I think we could even take 4 more if things go our way with some of those guys- afterall Mitchum could still go to the Dline

Unfortunately I agree with you. He would be in the 2 deep immediately and could possibly compete for a starting job but I just don't think he leaves SC and Holtz getting an extension probably doesn't help. I'd rank getting Hart right up there with Davis and Ginn in terms of importance.
