What this is, what it will be. Some Q's answered.

Good to see this thing up and running Clarity!! This place is killer! I love the idea of the personal aspect that you are pursuing. "A day in the life of Chris Gamble", what a typical day consists of would be a good start. You could really use thing to show that players are not just robots who show up on Saturday, that they like to chill out, watch movies, go out to eat and other things that will take this thing to a personal level. I see a lot of potential here.

This place is up and comming. I like the layout of the forums. Hopefully someday your vision will be seen. Dont know that I have anything to give, as in helping. Good job man.

EDIT: Thought of a good idea - You know how the buckeyes get leafs on thier helmets for making good plays ect. You could give them out to posters for really good post but make them pretty hard to get. Just something I was thinking that would be pretty cool IMO. Put them under their name or something????

I like the awarding Buckeye leaves idea, and have found a pretty clever way to do it.

Once we're finally upgraded to the new version (upon its final release), I'll look into installing that hack.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Some new people have arrived over the last week or two, so I thought I'd offer a general update.

I've hired a programmer (the one who did the arcade here) to do the stats engine to my specs, as well as intergrated game functions and management to cover our College Pick'em and March Madness contests here.

I have a thick stack of stats from the university, and they're being entirely cooperative trying to get the rest. Worst case scenario is probably play-by-play level detail for the last decade or two, and less going back. But I hold out hope, all the stats are out there somewhere, and there needs to be a resource that makes them available. That's how I've been describing the BP functionality I seek, as an unofficial media guide.

I want to be able to click a few buttons and find out what our average offensive scoring was in the 4th quarter of all home games in the 90s was, and then pull that info directly into a post on the board.

The programmer is part of the vBulletin community. The stats engine will be as integrated with everything else as the arcade is. Likewise, the 'portal' software I'll be using to create the front page, and various content pages, is already done and ready to go. It will be as seamless a part of the forum as the stats engine will, likewise, the stats engine will be a seamless part of it.

I *have* made some moves to introduce a news engine as well to all of this. My original interest was not to also do news because it's done so many other places, but I think there's definitely room to consolidate articles from both around the OSU fansite community, and from the greater internet as well.

Anyway, I expect the stats engine to be online late April or early May, but we'll probably be running and testing beta versions of it much earlier than that. Inviting you all to test and try to break all aspects of it.

By next Fall, we will definitely have more than just a forum here, but for the time being, I'm glad if people get something out of even just that. Enjoy yourselves here, BuckeyePlanet is a community, which is to say that its shape is influenced entirely by the people who comprise it. Our rules and expectations, as well as our direction, will be shaped by community desire and mores. That's easier than you might think, sometimes less is more.

The Ohio Buckeye, Aesculus glabra...early to bloom....

I tried using a modification to my existing/current moniker. I have a friend who took similar courses to mine....a 'true'TexasA&M "Aggie" grad. Due to the respect I have for him, I distinguished myself from him as a "BuckeyeAggie".

Unlike the Ohio Buckeye, which is one of the earliest 'native' trees to bloom in the Spring, I have been somewhat of a 'late bloomer'....but a strong finisher!!

 Where have you guys been hiding....all your secret boards/ locations?? :! I stumbled onto this site from another board I haven't frequented for several months....but finally wearied of seeing all the $ signs. Or shall we say, 'tired of looking on the 'Inside through $ signs'.
I faintly remember someone who posted fascinating information....but haven't heard from him in a Long time. I'll not bite any hand that has fed me...nuf said!! But the monikers I've seen just briefly on BuckeyePlanet have a 'familiar ring'!

I have one question regarding where to post Non-OSU related college football questions. For example, say I want to ask an intelligent question about Penn State (not the donnyjr: "how many of you think Penn State is not as good as it used to be"). What would the appropriate forum be?

Please don't say "BN"

Buckeye's haven't bloomed yet!! Can't tell you where to Planet...!!

:roll2: But Woody, you seem to be headed in the right direction......the Tressel Train is loading for Columbus, the Horse-Shoe and the WHAC. Top players from PA, MI....should want to get on board the Tressel Train!! ..... By all means.... Don't go to tsun!!

Dude, I went to Columbia, and I am confused by your last post...j/k

Seriously, Maybe a forum about general college football related threads, kept apart from Buckeye threads would be a good idea, but I realize that a lot of times, the OSU topics can lead into discussions involving issues related to other teams.
