When the New Boss is a ScUMmer

utgrad73

Reloaded
  • tOSU has a huge and loyal fan base and I consider myself as loyal a Buckeye fan as there is this side of the Ohio - Michigan border. Toledo is too close to Ann Arbor and with the present dismal economy and job market in Michigan, we will find them coming down for jobs. The new boss is one that migrated down from the land of the skunkbears, in fact the old boss was a Michigan grad. He seems to be a nice guy, young family, jovial and intelligent as well as an ex-football player and huge ScUM fan. The later is where I am going to be in trouble.

So far the typical exchanges emerged one by one as my tOSU loyalty becomes known. First he notices the "GO BUCKS" poster pinned to my wall and makes a comment - something about "I can see where going to have fun this season". Second, he sees my OHIO STADIUM wallpaper (showing off the new turf) on my PC and comments about the ugly stadium and what a shit hole it is. Third, he calls the Buckeyes, the Fuckeyes (Sorry I needed to spell it for impact). Fourth, I mentioned Woody Hayes in conversation and the fact that he would stop in Toledo and put the team up in a local hotel before "The Game" so they could sleep on Ohio soil the night before they played. This fact had no particular relevance except I needed to get my two cents worth in having heard all the above. The comment back from him was "Woody was a nut case". That was it, the straw, the final gauntlet, the line in the sand ...

So let the battle begin, screw my raise, my bonus, the work relationship, professionalism, work place ethics blah, blah, blah. THIS GUY IS GOING DOWN. Gradually my office will be transformed into a meca for the Buckeyes. I am bringing in every scarlet and grey item I have, hanging a picture of Troy Smith and JT, Woody and this years team picture, clip articles from the paper and pin them in conspicuous areas, fly my colors and be the most in your face Buckeye fan I can be. The season is upon us, the Bucks will be strong, the battle begins, so what can go wrong?

Can anyone relate to this? Are there other loyal Buckeye fans out there that can share their experiences whether it is with a friend, spouse, work associate, boss, or casual stranger who just might be a fan of that other team up north? Nothing mean spirited, cruel or criminal - let's support our team and have some fun here.

No comments today but he was wearing a nice red polo shirt and gray pants, Of course I complimeneted him on his choice of colors! Newspaper article about Sanzenbacher went up on the wall and one about our linebackers just to get started.

    Go Bucks :osu:

Heh, when I started at my company 3 of the owners when to UM, college buddies that started a company, and the fourth was a ND grad. Honestly, it actually makes for a fun Football season, we're all over each other, then again, I have been there 7 years, so I have been on the good side of that one :)

Honestly, they really don't say that many negative things, they think the Shoe is nice, they respect and honor the tradition, though they all say it would have been different 15 years ago when they were just out of school. My wall is covered with papers from the various games we've won against Michigan and ND, and my background for my monitors are stuff from here. More than anything they just like the enthusiasm I have towards the Bucks.

There is a guy in our building that is a huge Michigan Football fan. And a Huge North Carolina Basketball fan. And a really big Chicago Bears fan. And Pistons. you get the drift...

Anymore he avoids talking to me. One reason is he can't win a single argument. The other is that I generally just tell him to dump the trash, run his vacuum and speed on...

Dead hooker in the _______ is always the answer.

Cut up in the file drawer. (No too bloody)

    or

Not really dead but unconscious slumped over his desk with an ounce of ____ in her hand.

    or

Laying flat on her back, naked clutching a Buckeye banner in her hand.

Any one know a good attorney?

During my last few years on active duty in the Air Force, my squadron commander (and, since I was the First Sergeant, my immediate supervisor) was an Ohio State grad (in fact, he was the one who got me on to Bucknuts which utilmately led here). But, his boss (full Colonel, group commander) was Michigan grad. He actually was a nice guy and despite the difference in rank we were able to give each other some real good-natured ribbing...this was near/at the end of the Cooper Era so obviously the colonel had the ups on us. But, when I retired (literally as Tressel coached his first game) and ended up working about 100 feet down the hall as an IT contractor, we kept in touch and after Tressel led us to the upset in 2001, from that time on we've had a standing bet on The Game (which he has always honored). Even now, despite his being now-retired in Colorado, the bet is still on...he and his wife have a time-share on Maui and they come back for a few weeks every two years and this past January while they were here he gave me the two six-packs of hefeweizen for the 2005 and 2006 games. Hard to stomach the fact a Michigan grad can actually have honor and integrity...
