Which Ohio State recruits are on commitment watch?

It could be a busy couple of weeks for the Buckeyes.
There’s been a pretty steady flow of Ohio State Buckeyes recruiting news in the past few months. The Buckeyes added two commitments: Ryan Jacoby and Sampson James, in March. Additionally, they’ve picked up two thus far in April, Noah Potter and Ronnie Hickman—both of which happened in the last couple of days.
That flow could be interrupted in the next few weeks, however, as several Buckeye targets will be announcing their commitments before summer rolls around. Let’s take a look at who some of those recruits on commitment watch are, and when Buckeye fans should expect to see them announce their college decisions.
Garrett Wilson
Of all the names on this list, Garrett Wilson is pretty easily at the top for my pick for next recruit to commit to Ohio State. He was on campus this past weekend for an official visit, and had a fantastic trip. He’s headed to Texas for an official visit this weekend, and will be making his commitment announcement shortly after finishing that visit.
The trip to Austin is, in my opinion, a precaution, and just Wilson’s way to confirm his decision, whilst staying true to his commitment to visiting Texas. He has a very good relationship with Texas’ staff, and may ultimately just be visiting as a courtesy. Ohio State is at the top of his list right now, and I don’t expect that to change before his announcement.
Wilson, a Lake Travis product, and former teammate of Buckeye quarterback Matthew Baldwin, is ranked No. 46 nationally, and sixth among all receivers.
Cade Stover
Cade Stover is a very familiar recruit to Ohio State fans. He picked up an offer from Ohio State more than a year ago, and has been on campus quite a few times since then. He’s been pretty open about Ohio State leading in his recruitment, and nothing leads me to think that his mind has changed recently.
He visited Oklahoma this past weekend for their spring game, and while he had a good visit, Ohio State still led his recruitment after that trip. He’s heading to Columbus this weekend, and I’d be pretty surprised if he didn’t leave as a member of Ohio State’s 2019 class.
Stover is the 126th player nationally and the No. 8 ranked linebacker. He’d be the third recruit in the class from Ohio, along with Noah Potter and Ryan Jacoby.
Harry Miller
Harry Miller may be the recruit (outside of EJ Smith, the son of Emmitt Smith) that generated the most buzz this weekend at Ohio State’s spring game. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound center from Buford (Georgia) looked like a grown man roaming the sidelines, and was rumored to be a possible commit before the weekend ended.
While that commitment didn’t come, Ohio State does sit at the top of his list, and as of now, this is a two team race between the Buckeyes and Stanford. Miller will be making his announcement before he goes on a mission trip this summer, and right now, Ohio State is pretty heavy favorites.
Jordan Battle
One of the longest tenured members of the commitment watch list, this one is becoming slightly less likely everyday. Battle was extremely close to committing back in mid-March, but ultimately decided to hold off. He was scheduled to visit Columbus for the spring game, but ended up at Miami’s spring game instead, because of the possible bad weather.
While Ohio State is still at the top of Battle’s list, the commitment of Ronnie Hickman isn’t an encouraging sign for the chances of Battle joining this class. Ohio State is only looking for two safeties in 2019, and with the addition of Hickman, they only need one more. I think Battle is at the top of their list right now, but this recruitment may go into the fall depending on how Ohio State wants to play it.
Battle is 357th nationally and the 30th best safety, according to the 247sports composite.
Grant Gunnell
Ohio State could be landing their quarterback for 2019 very soon. After examining a number of options at quarterback, the Buckeyes have honed in on the pro-style (noticing a trend these past few seasons?) star from Houston. Gunnell, a former Texas A&M commit, is set to take his official visit to Columbus in two weeks, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends his recruitment shortly after that visit.
Ohio State leads this recruitment, and while Oklahoma State, LSU and Oregon are still present, this is Ohio State’s battle to lose. A good visit could very well deliver Urban Meyer his quarterback for this class.
Gunnell is ranked No. 54 nationally, and second among pro-style quarterbacks.
