The Chicago White Sox are close to working out a deal to acquire outfielder Alfonso Soriano from the Washington Nationals, ESPN reported Monday, citing an unnamed source close to the situation. The Nationals want pitcher Brandon McCarthy in the deal, ESPN reported.
Soriano, who is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season, is batting .288 with 31 homers, 62 RBIs and 25 steals.

The Nationals acquired Soriano in the offseason from the Texas Rangers and shifted him from second base to the outfield, where he has thrived.
McCarthy, a reliever, is 3-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 32 appearances.

The White Sox also bolstered their bullpen by acquiring Kansas City Royals pitcher Mike MacDougal, ESPN reported.

I think the Sox are very high on McCarthy, and with Garcia and Vazquez being questionable and Contreras being about 70, I can't see them parting with a potential starter when they already have plenty of bats.

Detroit is scared of Abreu's increasing age and salary. Humberto Sanchez (the P that is our best top level guy not already at Det.) is being held out of his start @ Toledo tonight. Not sure what it means, if anything, but Soriano is definately their prime target IMO. Of all teams the White Sox :smash: :smash: :smash:

Actually I should have looked more into this before celebrating.

I don't think I'd like McCarthy for Soriano because Soriano will be a free-agent at the end of the season and he seems like the kind of guy who would just pay for the Yankee payroll, why risk the future of White Sox pitching for that? If he had a few years left on contract i'd be for it, but.. he doesn't.

You will not see Pods in center. He has no chance in hell of starting in center. The scenario is as follows. A sign and trade with Soriano coming to the whitesox for pods and garcia/vaz
how would that make sense? we need to unload garcia and vazquez, we need relief pitching, and we need a CF.

I don't think unless you give him 100 million that Soriano will sign an extension. He definitely wants to see how much he can get on the FA market. Also Washington is trying to get younger, I doubt they would take Garcia or Vazquez and Pods for Soriano. That is a crap deal for them.
