Who are the best and worst college football announcers/analysts?

Worst: Verne Lundquist from CBS. Lundquist is such a homer SEC fan. He relentlessly pimps the SEC teams as vastly superior -- possessing super human strength, skill and quickness as opposed to their lowly Big 12, Pac-10 and Big Ten counterparts.

You'd think, after listening to a Verne Lundquist telecast, that a middle of the pack Tennessee team on a down year could score 60 points against the 1985 Bears and have you thanking them for stealing your girlfriend and crashing your car.

Best Keith Jackson moment: I can't remember the teams but years ago, I was watching a blow out of a game when a back-up tailback came into the game in mop-up time. The tailback's name was "Keith Jackson." After getting tackled: "Keith Jackson carries the ball to the 35 yard line -- no relation." Well, the player was an Afr.-Amer. guy which really made the joke.

im convinced ol verne drinks more jack daniels during a broadcast than all of BP drinks in a year...

verne is the souths (cbs') version of brent. hes the hype machine for the biggest game in the country (or part of the country) the man loves the big game and the big moment.

and their it is folks. 1974 osu-um game, worst called game in history...

ESPN Classic reran this game a few years ago. In JoePa's defense, it was a terrible game. Keith didn't do well, either. There just wasn't much to talk about. I have no idea why they would have tagged this game as a classic. Probably one of the only games you could find where Archie looked ordinary.

Best:
Spiels and Danielson are the best analysts. I think Cunningham from UW has improved a lot after that hatchet job he pulled on us vs NCSU in '03.

I like Brent and Vern for the PBP(I know VL is an SEC homer but I don't care I like him).

Worst(so many to choose from):

I'll take Mike Tirico and his near orgasam on every call for the worst PBP. That is if I can't choose the old and unmedicated Kieth Jackson

In the heavyweight dickhead divison, aka worst color commentator/analyst, I'm going with Herbstriet over Dan Fouts in a close one. I know Dan got on everyones shit list after the Miami game but that performance turned in by Herbie during the Rose Bowl last year was something special.

In my 35+ years of listening to pompus windbags and dumb ex jocks that was by FAR the most over the top, one sided ass kissing fest I have ever heard, nothing else comes close. I honestly doubt that Mrs. Carrol has logged as many hours with Pete's nutsack on her chin as Herbie has.

G.O.A.T.: Keith Jackson...hands down.

Favorite current: agree with Jax on Spiels and Danielson. Musberger is the one analyst to me that can make a game have that "big game" feel just with his voice, but his overkill on certain phrases (Big Tex :smash:) often kills it.

Worst: Fouts does not understand that objectivity is supposed to be part of broadcasting, Herbie spends too much time lathering up certain programs/coaches/players balls and Tirico is simply verbal diarrhea. E!spn is actually littered with a huge number of misinformed/poorly prepared hacks whose names I can't even remember.

Mike Patrick is freakin' terrible...guy doesn't know his ass from his elbow during a game.

My favorite right now is Todd Blackledge...guy knows hi stuff. It amazes me how little some of these announcers actually see during a game.

This thread is for college football announcers/analysts, not ball-sweat-slurping-self-righteous-idiotic-knuckle-dragging-mongoloid-ass-munching-pompous-know-nothing-testicleless-moronic-hack-jobs-who-spew-garbage-for-ESPN. That would be found in the thread "Things that Mark May and Colin Cowherd have in common".

Best- Keith Jackson
Others I like- Lee Corso (he's just fun imo) and Kirk Herbstreit
Neutral- Brent Musberger (I like his voice but after hearing "Theeee AAAAAA-TRAIN" with Anthony Thomas every time he carried the ball, I had trouble liking him. Plus, he can piss me off in The Game
Worst- Lou Holtz, Todd McShay, Trev Alberts, and whoever used to help with Alberts that we all hated?

Mark May hasn't been mentioned? What the hell?

We have a winner...rep. I couldn't remember for the life of me but yes, Mark May is the biggest tool to ever live.
