I serve myself.

And I believe that everyone who is not suffering from an injured or diseased brain does the same.

I think this is what is considered an error of cosmologizing one's own experiences--in other words, just because that is your experience, does not mean it is everyone's.

I don't mean to speak for BB73, but the way I interpret what he was trying to say is that everyone's actions, in one way or another, are self-serving and therefore we all essentially serve ourselves. Whether you claim to serve God, family, country, career, etc. the reasons you do so are primarily self-serving. I'd argue that acts of true altruism rarely, if ever, occur.

I'm sure he did not go to cosmology school so don't call him names! :(

Seems like an simple question, but it gets to the heart of who we are. What's important in our lives. How we have have shaped our lives.
Some might say "I serve God." Or if your a coach, you might say "I serve the kids." Or if you are starting a career, you might say "I am serving my career."
So.
Who do you serve?
I serve God first. He is my everything. I serve my future wife second. It is amazing how we both have the same beliefs. I have been divorced for 3 years and I met this amazing girl. God is first in both of our lives.

I'll ask my questions from page 2 again: How exactly does one serve God and how do you know you're doing it correctly? And if your top priority is to serve God but there is a mandate that is in direct opposition to serving your family/wife, do you still serve God or do you sometimes make exceptions?

I suppose its a lot like professional. Athletes. Praise and thank god when
You win. Only to totally neglect his name when you lose. Or something
Like that.

Yeah, I figured so. Although that's more like God serving the athlete rather than the athlete serving God. If all I need to do is occasionally take a knee and bow or point a finger to the sky to be successful and make millions as a pro athlete, sign me up!

Are you looking for a thoughtful discussion or a punching bag?

If the former, please list the exceptions.

Thoughtful discussion of course, isn't that what we all seek on this board?

The exceptions would depend on the God you believe in and what that God expects from its followers (if anything). If one believes in a God that has a long list of rules to follow in order to serve him, then eventually one of those rules would come in conflict with serving family or country.

Yea that is totally it :roll1:

You act as if my image of the modern "Christian" athlete is
Somehow incorrect??

Of course that's not how one serves god. For some reason Ray
Lewis came to mind and that's really all I could think of.

Oh dear, I hope he isn't waiting for me when I get done with work.

I haven't found one that is in conflict with my family, unless one starts confusing service and joy with happiness, but that is a common problem not specific to family issues.

As for country, there has never been a power struggle there, just a hierarchy. There also aren't many countries that warrant consideration for equality
