Who will be the new coach?

I love Obie and hate to start this while the body is still warm, but since folks are already speculating on the topic in another thread I thought it merited a thread of its own.

There was an interesting article in BSB a month or so ago speculating on the potential of Knight. It was speculation that mentioned 'unnamed' sources, but IMO it was the sort of article that had merit - just not directly quotable merit. It was particularly difficult to discuss that topic 'on the record' since OSU already had a coach and Knight already had a job. Nonetheless, that article (written by Mark Rea) stated that Geiger and Knight had a very good relationship.

I have numerous reservations about Knight, and he certainly does not share the demeanor of Tressel, Obie and Foster, but nobody has ever accused Knight of being dirty. If Geiger's #1 concern is running a clean ship, Knight could be his man.

Somehow no one ever mentions this when they try to portray Knight as a monster. It's unfair.

I already posted this, but since it's a new thread, Jim Cleamons is the Assistant HC of the Lakers. No idea if he would have interest or if he has college experience. He has the OSU connections, though, and if Phil Jackson trusts you to coach a playoff game while he's in the hospital, he's a good coach too.

I wonder what the odds are of Cleamons getting the Lakers job when Jackson steps down or, more important, what Cleamons thinks the odds might be. It would be hard to turn that down and there would be some pressure from the League to take it, if offered, I would think.

It will be interesting to see some of the names that are thrown out. But let's not forget that our last coach - love him though I do - was a "who is that?" name and the one before was our own assistant coach, hired after it appeared nobody else would take the job.

This is not the Duke or Kentucky job - and the threat of probation isn't going to help. (Which again strengthens the case for Knight if speculation that he would like to come back to his alma mater has legs.)

Randy Ayers is looking for work.... :bonk:

I haven't followed basketball enough to make any real suggestions. Too bad that the Kent State coach already moved on.

I'm really on the fence about Bobby Knight. He's certianly got the talent and skills, but I'm not sure we need his temper.
