Why do scout boards suck and BP does not?

Serious question. I joined a couple years ago, but prior to that I didn't know about scout.com or rivals.com. BP was the first message board I started posting on. In fact, I visited bucknuts for the first time a couple months ago, and this year was the first year I visited and posted on opponents boards.

So, to reiterate, why do they suck? I mean, the flaming and trolling is ridiculous. Can nobody do anything about it on those boards? From what I understand, BP was formed because people thought bucknuts sucked, right? What was the philosophy behind BP to ensure it wouldn't turn into a troll infested flame-fest? Right off the bat it seems like we got a lot more mods.

Anyway, I ask for the BP elders to enlighten me on this subject.

EDIT: Not knocking just BN, but scout boards in general. Just got back from the USC scout board and its 50% discussion, 50% flaming/trolling

Well, I have you beaten by a couple of months Rock3tm4nn, guess that makes me a younger elder :)
Taking as much as possible a non-BN bashing POV in my responses, I see:

BP, it seems to me, was created to be a freer-form forum than BN. One that was not so linguistically constrained for one thing, and had a more temperate level (i.e., flaming not condoned).
I think we have to credit the mods over here for toeing the line pretty well on flame-retardancy - though one other group that deserves some measure of praise is the community itself. There is an expanded tolerance for dissenting views, if those views are backed up by cogent argument, reasonable discussion. There is a great deal more self-policing, more sense of responsibility. Laugh at the rep system as some do, it becomes obvious to a wannabe troll gaining entree to BP when they are delivering the wrong kind of comedy.
Back in 2003-04 there was a certain lack of such tolerance on the BN boards (oops, did say I was not going to bash BN, but lets face it, that was the truth). Part of it emanated I feel from deference to the uber-Mods at BN. There was also definitely a mind-set amongst a vocal, but influential group of posters that all was far from right with the Buckeyes.
One other characteristic that makes BN still a kind of mosh-pit of bulletin boards is the lack of adequate structure. There it is frequently the case that repetitive threads are generated, this is, in my view, promoted by many trying to shout above the teeming throngs.
There are many good things for sure about BN, particularly their articles, they like any community have their fair share of good posters. But, I think you have it right the BBs are still too frequently populated with homegrown or visiting trolls and shouters. That is in part because they are part of the scout network - the good from which is the common database of recruiting info, the bad, the all too easy access for idiots, goofballs and trolls.

I'm glad someone noticed. When we have Mod meetings (Which, I must say are outstanding... very high class, catered... spare no expense) we all pretend we're various personalities off that team. For what it's worth, I get to pretend I'm Clyde Drexler. I was gonna be Jordan, but 21 trumped me with his "I'm an admin" whining bullshit. :roll1:

Edit: Oh, yeah... and JC is Christian fucking Laettner.. :slappy: Hey, Chris... go grab me a beer.
