Why doesn't Ohio St. have a traditional...

Muahahaha

Junior
...non-league rivalry game every year like Michigan/ND, or USC/ND does.

I realize that we have a rival game with Michigan at the end, but a yearly traditional non-league rival game would be awesome. Next year we only have Washingon away. It seems there is no non-league game to look forward to as far as the excitment factor. We have been spoiled the last two years with Texas.

I think we should either schedule Texas as a yearly rival game or someone like LSU, Florida, or some other top SEC team.

What does everyone think?

Why just play one when we can play a variety of quality OOC teams. Texas, USC, Maimi, Virginia Tech. Why would you want to settle on just one strong out a conference team when you can play a home and away with a new team every two years. I think our out of conference scheduling right now is just fine.

Well, let's see....

We are playing in the coming years

Washington
USC (Home & Home)
Virginia Tech (Home & Home)
Miami Fla (Home & Home)
California (Home & Home)

Not dodging to many people with that list!!! Looks like JT and the crew are scheduling just fine to me....:)

I am not saying we are dodging anyone - I agree that we are playing great teams. It was just a thought.

Does everyone feel that those upcoming games will generate as much interest as the Texas series?

One other question - why don't we ever play top team from SEC? - At least in recent years.

No, but do you think that the Texas series would have generated as much interest if we had played them throughtout the 90's and it wasn't our first matchup ever?

The biggest reason why everyone wanted to see OSU/UT was because it was their first ever meeting. Now that we've played the home/away series, the "newness" has worn off.

The reason why we don't play a home/away series with an SEC team is that they won't play north of the Mason-Dixon line.

The stars aligned for these two matchups. The champs came to town with one of the best collegiate players ever, then we were #1 & #2 heading into next year (some years, our new starters would not have cost us in the preseason polls).

Whether they'll be high profile games or not....

USC? Clearly.
Miami? Sure... (02 game, southern speed, someone will revive that program).
Oklahoma? Better team than UT most years other than 05 & early 06.

As others have said, our out-of-conference rivalaries over the next 10 years will be the Top 25, so I'm not too worried.

as for the SEC...the question should be worded "why doesn't the SEC play Ohio State?"

Because SEC teams don't want to travel North.

The closest thing to a non-league rival Ohio State has is probably USC. I would fully support OSU and USC upping the ante on the classic by playing every single year (in the national title game) :wink2:

Is it true or just an opnion that the SEC team wont play the northen schools? I mean it can't be the Temp. It is not cold the early part of season. The LSU fans think if LSU had the opportunity, LSU would come back and play Ohio St. They even went as far as to say, they would to see another Ohio St and LSU series. Here is a link to their messege board.http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/messagetopic.asp?p=3424133
