Why is the *%&*! Sound Off?

Man, I updated java and windows three days ago, and since then I have no sound. The normal things I have done, there are no mute icons clicked on speaker volume or in windows media player, the speaker did not come unplugged....

The speaker volume icon shows a green bouncing light when I click on it, and when I go to control and to adjust system volume, there is nothing muted.

I go to audio devices, and the driver is up to date. I go to speaker test and it says they are working properly.

I'm not a tech guy, but I am going crazy trying to figure this out.

I have Vista , and a new buy acer computer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

So when you go to your audio properties do you get any sound there?

First, I would uninstall Java and see if you get sound, if so, then it's a java problem. If not, then it might be the fact that you have that ugly signature here. Seriously, though, yeah like that was a funny joke, but humor me, plug headphones into the headphone port. I have had some weird shit happen where my primary speaker port wasn't outputting correctly, and my headphone port was. Just as a thought, you might want to change you signature, and check that headphone thing out too.

Dangit! That java update I sent you 3 days ago was supposed to mute your keyboard not your speakers

Seriously though, it seems as though your sound app has a compatibility problem with the version of java you updated. I would go out to the Acer web site and look for an updated sound driver and application. If an update is not available, try uninstalling and re-installing the current driver.

Or for some reason it set your audio output to digital only, which I have run into before. Its in your audio properties, and it will cause it to only output sound through the digital out on the sound card. See if you can find anything on that.
