Wisconsin 51, at tOSU 60 (Jan 16, 2010, 8 ET, BTN)

Great and needed win. Fantastic coaching job by Thad. I don't know how you divvy up minutes with this bunch of guys. Seems like a different guy or two shows up for 8 minutes or so then... dissappears. Getting a flow going offensively or defensively seems almost impossible at times. Just a great coaching job this whole week IMO.

Lighty looked really good last night. It was nice to see him getting aggressive and taking it to the hoop even when Turner was in the game too. Often times, this team depends so much on Evan that it looks like 4 guys are standing waiting for Evan to create something. But last night, the guys did a great job moving without the basketball and curling to the hoop. This offense continues to improve! Also, props to Madsen going 3-3 from the floor and making the most of his opportunities.

Thoughts from the game:

1. The game itself was pretty boring to watch--low scoring and there was never really any doubt that OSU was going to win (even with Turner only playing 26 minutes). A win's a win, though, in the Big Ten season.

2. UW was pretty fortunate that Turner got into foul trouble and only played 26 minutes. In those 26 minutes, he scored 15 points. Makes you wonder how many he would have scored if he played 35+ minutes like he typically does. Not surprisingly, UW didn't have an answer for him when he was actually on the floor.

3. Lighty played a very solid game last night. You could easily tell that athletically UW had no one who could match up with him.

4. OSU seemed to take a similar approach with Hughes as they did with Hummel in the Purdue game--if a guy's hurting you early on in the game, focus on him and shut him down late in the game. Hughes got out to a quick start, but slowed down after we keyed on him -- he scored almost half his points in the first 4:40 of the game.

Usually I'm harsh on Madsen, but he played really well tonight. I don't know where Jeremie Simmons has gone too though

He's giving OSU some Terwilliger minutes these days. Energy, hustle, and a baseline jumper.

Brilliant job defensively by PJ Hill and Jon Diebler. Completely shut down Bohannon last night and after 10 minutes in Trevon Hughes disappeared as well. Well done lads!

On the offensive end David Lighty was a manchild. Good for him.

Great minutes off the bench by Maddog as some have already mentioned. Good stuff.

Great to see guys stepping up against a quality opponent.

Has anybody seen Bernini? He was all over this place the first time we played Wiscy.

You realize the game was played on a Saturday night, right? Some people have lives. I wouldn't have been able to make an appearance anyways because my computer had a virus since Friday or so, which required fixing. Also, the primary reason I was "all over that thread" was a couple of the usual suspects were baiting.

Anyways, good game. Evan Turner was a beast....but we already knew that. I guess a surprise was how nonchalantly dominant he looked on some of those turnaround jumpers. Kind of like Jon Leuer does/did. Speaking of whom, I can't feel bad about a 9-point loss without him. That's around what I expected. I don't recall expressing confidence about a Badgers' team that starts Tim Jarmusz at power forward. I said this wasn't a Big Ten Championship caliber team once he went down. A non Big Ten Championship team doesn't win against a good team like the Buckeyes on the road. As long as they didn't get embarrassed, then I'm fine with it. By the same token, the Buckeyes shouldn't have been expected to win in Madison w/out Turner, although the manner in which they lost may have been discouraging. Hopefully Leuer returns for the BTT and we get a chance to find out who the better team really is finally.

3 excuses in the first 2 sentences. Impressive.

I'm not even sure what could be twisted into being labeled as an excuse in that post outside of pointing out the fact that Leuer was sidelined, which obviously would have an effect on the outcome. By the same token, it was pointed out repeatedly in the previous game thread that Turner's absence would be a factor, which I didn't dispute, because it obviously was. How much is unknown until the future, potentially. These are reasons as to why something occurs. Excuse is an overused term by dumb people. "I can't really dispute what you say, but I want to, so......you're just making excuses".

I can see why some rival poster(s) have developed a kiss ass persona in order to survive here. I really enjoy the discussions and different perspectives from most of the Buckeye posters here, and I think the feeling is mutual, but there is a homer faction that just wants to hear what they want to hear, who kind of ruin it. OK, if you want to have an isolated board with no outsiders for discussion and edification, enjoy. I personally don't think that type of board would have as much enjoyment potential, though.
