RIP Neutron Man
I was at the faculty/staff pep rally on Weds at the stadium...They already had the new signage up and were washing it while everyone was at the rally. They then started to cover it up for the game....

Sign is nice and does a nice job of listing Woody's accomplishments, but could have been a touch bigger. Regardless, it is great to finally have something commerating the Great Woodrow Hayes!!

Is the sign on the open end of west side? If so, I would have GREAT seats (26AA), if only my &$%#& friend wasn't getting married.

You know, he probably won't notice that I'm missing. There's already 4-5 other penguins. Think he would miss one more?

One thing about the unveiling of the sign. I could not believe that woody only recieved a standing o for about 25 seconds. I was floored. I was thinking this stadium isnt going to shut up for 5 minutes. I couldnt believe my eyes.

See Crazybuck, I was thinking the same thing. I had no idea it was going to happen. I think the idea is great but to me it deserves more.

As much as that guy meant to the university. I was up in my seat the first second they started talking clapping and people around me were looking at me like what the hell are you clapping for. I said it is fuckin' woody for gosh sakes.

I might haved missed this but is there reason we did not have something up honoring him? I know we have the WHAC.

I also thought it was interesting for Jack Arute to call it "righting a wrong".

Just that it is a touche subject of who to honor and how? Every AD and coach was always stumped to find good ways of honoring greats and stumped on who was the greats needed to honor. Waaay too many AAs, coaches, and College Hall of Famers. So eventually we just settled on going with our Heisman winners. Then, our new AD said that he and Tressel felt something was missing, after knowing all the contributions Woody made to OSU, why wasnt there a piece of contribution back to him? I think that Geiger helped this planning as well.

Great thread isn't it?

I would have liked to see Woody get a longer ovation, but I wasn't surprised. I think they should have chosen a different game honestly. Half the fans were drunk (including myself) and the timing was just bad. Choosing a lower profile afternoon game I think would have been better...it's not like the 'Shoe isn't full every game anyways

By calling it "righting a wrong", he is taking a shot at past ADs which I don't think is fair....for all the reasons you mention. Woody is perhaps the greatest figure in tOSU football and deserves every accolade and ceremony we lay on him. I just thought we'd see "more"....although I guess "more" is hard to quantify.

I guess I am just glad it happened and sorry I missed it.
