WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

I know a lot of people want to place comparisons to Percy with this position switch, but seeing those photos and knowing his running ability along with his ridiculous juking ability. I see a better comparison being Jamaal Charles. Split out wide they are almost identical. In the backfield, they utilize similar running styles. This is going to be a fun year.

In that first pic next to Cardale, if you change the colors on him - it's Reggie Bush. How awesome this season is going to be!!

Braxton Miller also came over at the end of period to get some snaps in the option run game, doing so with Cardale Jones. Quite the tandem.

OHIO STATE'S BRAXTON MILLER HAS QUITE A CONFIDENCE ABOUT HIMSELF IN NEW ROLE AT WIDE RECEIVER

57658_h.png,qitok=wzORuBxg.pagespeed.ce.NmpNfwStmQ.png

When Braxton Miller was made aware of Cardale Jones’ recent comments about Monday’s opening day of fall camp looking like it was his first time playing wide receiver, the former Ohio State quarterback laughed to himself.

“First time?” Miller quipped. “Yeah, right. Ask him again.

“Actually, ask Vonn Bell.”

Miller clearly doesn’t lack confidence. He never has. But for someone who has only spent one week of practice playing an entirely new position, Miller’s confidence was a little more apparent Sunday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for Ohio State’s Media Day.

There were more cameras and recorders at Miller's table than any other player, by a wide margin. It's a position he's used to, though, after being the face of the Ohio State program from 2011-13 as the team's quarterback.

But the questions this time around weren’t in relation to quarterbacking. No, this time people are interested in how Miller’s often-discussed move to wide receiver has gone throughout the first week of training camp.

“Probably the biggest adjustment is just going against somebody every play,” Miller said. “Virginia Tech, they’re playing man-to-man so going against somebody every play is the main thing that’s different from quarterback to receiver.”

Is Apple Picking on Braxton?

With Braxton Miller moving from quarterback to receiver, he has quickly lost a few privileges that membership in the quarterback club afforded him. Namely he is no longer off limits from contact.

As a quarterback, Miller was able to don the most prestigious of garments — the black "Don't you even think about touching me" jersey. As a receiver now, however, he is wearing the same scarlet jersey as every other receiver, and while the coaches are still mindful of the contact he receives, he's certainly not off limits.

As you can imagine, this is a learning experience for Miller, but also a delightful experience for the defense.

"I have had a couple of opportunities to press Braxton and you can tell he’s not really used to getting people’s hands on him," said cornerback Eli Apple. "So I’ve had a couple of opportunities where I got my hands on him. It just feels good because you never get too many opportunities to touch Braxton, so when you get that opportunity you’re going to make the most of it."...8D

Don't get too worried about Miller, however, because according to receivers coach Zach Smith, Miller had his best practice this past Saturday during the team's scrimmage. And this was after having dead legs for a couple of days from having to run so much more as a receiver than he ever did as a quarterback.

"Blessed" Miller Having Fun At Receiver

It has been suggested that there would be a learning curve for Braxton Miller at wide receiver.

Little did Miller know the first thing he’d have to get used to is just how much effort it would take to play his new position.

“After the second day I’m like, ‘I don’t know how y’all do this,’ ” Miller joked when speaking at Ohio State’s Sunday media day. “We wear a (GPS tracker) and it shows how many miles we run in practice. I run four miles a day and I’m like, ‘Wow.’ I barely run a mile playing quarterback.”

He is going to absolutely blow up this season. He is as close to unstoppable as it gets at this level. He has just enough size to complement his video game agility and acceleration. You can stop him for a loss and he'll house the next play. I cannot wait to see this play out. I wanted him to go to the combine as a back/receiver and learn on the job in the NFL b/c I thought that would be best for him, but I respect the hell out of him wanting to come back and finish on a really high note. Enjoy this year because I'm not sure we'll see another player quite like him.

Intrigue of Braxton Miller on Offense Will Soon Be the Defense's Problem

15-08-10-FB-0941-DH.jpg

Urban Meyer talks a lot about how he likes to play the football version of checkers by figuring out where all of his checker pieces fit into his offense, and more importantly, how they then give fits to a defense.

Every year he has added to his checker pile through recruiting — and, some would argue, hoarding — but it is with a player that he inherited upon his arrival that the checker pushing has finally reached its zenith of intrigue.

Braxton Miller's move from quarterback to receiver is one of the few stories in college football that can actually take the spotlight off of the Ohio State quarterback battle, at least for a moment, and it is with good reason.

Prior to his shoulder injuries, Miller was on pace to become Ohio State's all-time leading passer and its second-leading rusher, behind only Archie Griffin. That is a combination of versatility that can be productive in any number of ways on an offense, even if starting at quarterback is no longer one of them.

Essentially, if we're still talking about checkers, Miller is a checker who has been kinged, which means he can move in just about any direction that you would like. It is that range of skills that has the Buckeye coaches staying up late at night trying to come up with new ways to get him involved in the offense.

Are they excited about the prospects of what he can do?

"Absolutely," answered offensive coordinator Ed Warinner. "We just have to let him develop. We don't want to give him too much, but get good at two things, then get good at another thing, then get good at another thing, and if you do that over time eventually over time you have enough things that he can be a viable, big-time part of your package."
