That would have been nice. He was totally screwed by the NCAA and seeing a TD would have been a small amount of recognition for a good player that we needed this year. Hope the kid has a big game next week. This team needs an emotional lift along with a few fans. I don't care what happens in the post season.

Receiver has four catches in first game after his suspensions

Before taking the field for the first time this season in the last home game of his senior year, Ohio State receiver DeVier Posey knelt and said a prayer. After being forced to sit out the first 10 games because of breaking NCAA rules, he was back on the field and said the first thing he wanted to do was give thanks.

?I thanked God for the opportunity to play, and I thanked God that he allowed me to go through these hard times so I could learn things,? Posey said. ?I know it has been hard on Buckeye Nation with all the suspensions and everything, but you really can?t test God?s will. You?ve just got to let it be done.

?And I felt like I have learned so much, and I was able to serve the guys ... and I just thanked him for allowing me to be here. And I kissed the field and talked to the stadium for a little minute. I said ?I missed you.? It?s just a great place to play, and I love this place.?

That his final home game didn?t turn out as he?d have liked, with a 20-14 loss to Penn State, was a bummer, he said. But at least he started.

He had a 39-yard catch and run off a broken play early that ushered him back into the action. He was shoved out of bounds on the play, only to return and grab the pass from Braxton Miller.

?It?s football, I?ve been playing since kindergarten ... and it?s just a game when you get out there,? said Posey, who had four catches for 66 yards. ?A lot of people build it up, but when you get inside the lines, it?s still football.?

Not getting to play for 10 games was a brutal penalty.

?I never really hurt like that ... it was a rough time,? Posey said. ?This is the best I?ve felt in 2011. But to be honest, it?s in the past now (his troubles), and I really don?t want to do too much thinking about the past. I really want to move forward, and look forward to going up and beating Michigan.?

DeVier Posey made his much-anticipated return last week for Ohio State. Now the question is whether the senior wide receiver can make a huge difference in The Game today for an OSU offense that has struggled in the passing game this season.

Coach Luke Fickell repeated a bromide that has been a part of this storied series for more than a century: ?Your great players gotta play great in the Ohio State-Michigan game. That?s what it?s about.?

Whether Posey is one of those ?great players? can be debated, but there was no doubt he lifted the expertise level of the young and beleaguered receiving corps with his presence last week after being suspended for the first 10 games of the season.

?I think he provides an air of confidence for everybody, just adds another piece to the puzzle,? offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said. ?He can cause the coverage to change.

?He has a chance to make the big play, like that catch he made last week.?

Posey made four catches in a 20-14 loss to Penn State ? including a highlight-reel one-hander along the sideline. Freshman quarterback Braxton Miller, however, completed just 8 of 18 passes overall.

If the Buckeyes ? a staggering 118th in the nation in passing offense ? could be merely competent at throwing the ball today in Michigan Stadium, it could go a long way toward aiding their attempt at an upset win.

Bollman believes just having Posey in the game could help Miller. In his career, Posey has caught 128 passes for 1,859 yards and 16 touchdowns.

?It?s got to give Braxton a lot of confidence knowing he?s in there, and everybody in the huddle,? Bollman said.

For sure. I think if he puts together a decent workout, he goes mid-to-late first round. Super smooth out of his breaks, good size, good top end speed, good blocker downfield, and strong hangs. Above all, excellent body control when he goes up for the ball. All the makings of a good pro. Seems like yesterday when I was predicting him to be a 5 star after watching his junior film at LaSalle. He really had a great career here and I think he was open much more than his statistics will show. If he is available early 2nd round, I would love for my Bengals to pick him up to put him opposite of Green. (I know, I know, nobody else will wish that upon him :biggrin:)
