WR DeVier Posey (2017 Grey Cup Champion and MVP)

DeVier Posey shines at Ohio State football Pro Day

Former Ohio State wide receiver DeVier Posey's final season as a Buckeye was far from picturesque.

Suspended for OSU's first 10 regular season games, Posey was only able to play in the Buckeyes' home finale against Penn State, the road matchup with Michigan and in the Gator Bowl versus Florida, all of which OSU lost. OSU ended the year 6-7, with Posey totaling just 162 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Posey's pro day Saturday, however, was another story.

Following his workout, Posey stood in front of a group of reporters, smiling about his performance.

"I feel like I had a good day. I caught everything, so I'll smile about that," Posey said.

Along with 12 of his former teammates, Posey displayed his talents in front of coaches and scouts representing every NFL team except the New York Jets and Chicago Bears.

Worked out by new Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, Posey did not drop any passes and ran crisp routes.

Posey said it was important for him to have a good showing.

"It's the period at the end of the sentence. It's a two-month period, and you want to cap it all off with a great workout," Posey said. "So, I really feel like right here I just wanted to put that period at the end of the sentence for this two-month period of training, working out. I feel like it went well."

After talking with his agent before OSU's Pro Day, Posey chose not to run the 40-yard dash Saturday.

"All the teams really got me through the range, through the grapevine, between 4.37 and 4.48, so I'll take that time," Posey said. "That's why I felt comfortable here not to run."

Posey returns to La Salle as Legend
Mar. 24, 2012

DeVier Posey?s return to La Salle?s Lancer Stadium Saturday created a flood of memories.

?I remember all the hours I spent here,? he said, standing near the 50-yard line during the Legends Track and Field Classic. ?I remember all the throwing up we did.?

The former La Salle and Ohio State wide receiver and 1991 graduate Mike Arlinghaus were honored for their high school accomplishments.

Arlinghaus, who graduated in 1991, became the first La Salle athlete or team to win a state championship when he captured the Division I pole vault title.

Posey won the Division I 400-meter state championship in 2008, helping the Lancers to a second-place finish.

Life-size banners of Posey and Arlinghaus will join those of four previous Legends meet honorees: Doug Bockenstette, the 1993 1600 and 3200 state champion; Dave Padgett, who set the state 3200 record in 2000; Chandler Burden, the 2008 state discus and shotput champion, and Tim Berwanger, who earned all-state honors in the shot and discus.

Mason won both the boys? and girls? team championhips, while Mount Healthy senior Vince Turnage turned in the top individual effort by winning the 100, 200 and 400 events.

Posey, currently working out in Columbus to stay in shape for next month?s draft, was accompanied by his mother, Julie. Arlinghaus, who lives in Minnesota, couldn?t be on hand for the ceremony and was represented by his parents, Ray and Judy.

La Salle?s Legends also have the events in which they excelled named in their honor. Vaulters started competing in the Mike Arlinghaus pole vault, won by Mason junior Leslie Pil.

Bockenstette?s name graces the 3,200, while 1,600 runners win the Padgett event. The discus is named for Burden, and shotputters compete in the Berwanger event.

The 400-meter race is named after Posey, but he?s not sure how long that?s going to last after looking at the Lancers? roster, which includes junior Jaleel Hytchye, who finished second to Turnage.

?I don?t know how long the race is going to be named after me,? Posey said

DeVier Posey Scouting Report

DeVier Posey, WR, Ohio State

Height: 6?2″
Weight: 211
40 Time: 4.37
Grade: 6.4 (Grading Scale)

Arms: 31 5/8″ Hands: 9 5/8″

Vertical: 36.5″ Broad: 10?3″ 3 Cone: 7.03 Bench: 14

Film Room Notes: vs Florida, vs Michigan

Strengths: Adequate size for a WR, with good strength and weight for the position ? Can stretch the field vertically and make the big play ? Tracks the ball well while the ball is in the air ? Makes the over the shoulder catch routinely ? Exhibits plus body control and the ability to adjust to poor throws ? Catches the ball and turns up field in one motion, gets up field as quick as any WR ? Has shown the ability to win 50-50 balls and can go up and get it ? At his best when working the middle of the field ? Great straight line speed, ran 4.37 at combine ? Makes catches in tight areas.

Weaknesses: Doesn?t play as fast as he was timed ? Doesn?t consistently create separation against man to man coverage ? When he is open, he allows the ball to get into his pads almost every time. Actually exhibits much better hands when asked to make the tough catch ? Not a very polished route runner, doesn?t work his way back to QB ? Loses some speed out of his breaks ? Drops too many balls ? Doesn?t appear explosive, more of a build up speed guy, takes time to get going ? Was suspended for part of the 2011 season as part of the ?Tattoo Scandal? at OSU.

Friend of mine said he saw him and talk talked to him locally signing autographs. In short he said he looked solid and "thicker". He appeared to be bigger than what he looks like on TV. Said he talked about a lot about his opportunity going into the NFL and was really pumped.

Personally, I hope he does well in the NFL. Part of me wants to see him excel just to prove that his value and over-write the screw job he got from the NCAA.
