WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

Duron Carter officially joins FAU football team
August 4, 2012|By Dieter Kurtenbach

BOCA RATON ?

Former Alabama and St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Duron Carter has enrolled at FAU and practiced with the Owls Saturday, bringing an end to the transfer speculation that surrounded the talented, but troubled Boca Raton native.

Carter, the son of NFL wide receiving great Cris Carter, went through a full workout with his new teammates in an afternoon session, though he didn?t wear shoulder pads in his first practice.

While Carter is on the field and in the program, his eligibility for 2012 is still in question ? the Owls' attention will now turn to securing Carter a hardship waiver with the NCAA, which would allow him to be eligibile this season.

If his waiver is denied, the NCAA will force him to sit out 2012, after which he will have have one year of college eligibility remaining.

If the waiver is approved, Carter can play for two years at FAU, his fourth school in as many years.

Carter signed with Ohio State out of Ft. Lauderdale?s St. Thomas Aquinas, and had a strong freshman season, catching 13 passes. But academic problems led Carter to leave OSU.

He transferred to Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, where he put up big numbers (44 receptions, 690 yards, 10 touchdowns in nine games) and landed a scholarship offer from Alabama.

But Carter never played a game for Alabama, sitting out all of last year for what was believed to be further academic deficencies. Carter left the Alabama program earlier this summer.

Carter faces an uphill battle to play in 2012. Because this is his second transfer to a four-year school, he will not be eligible to redshirt the 2012 season, should he have to sit it out.

He should have just gone pro this year. Even if he wasn't drafted he would have been signed as an undrafted FA

He's not cut out for college to put it mildly

If you can't hack it in college how are you going to make it in the pros? He's been given plenty of opportunities and just pisses them away.

Just curious, exactly what "hardship" is he claiming? Somehow I don't think the inability to maintain the minimum GPA at a Division 1 university to stay eligible for football qualifies as a "hardship" to the NCAA.

what a waste of talent/genes. either academic or personality issues wherever he goes. kid just doesn't get it.

I agree w/ previous posters: if he can't hack it being a college athlete (when someone is doing just about everything for you but wiping your *ss), what makes people think he would make it in the pros? It's like a married couple having another child to save their struggling marriage. Another child would compound their problems, just like the NFL would add to Duron's.

Duron Carter denied waiver

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) - A one-time Alabama receiver will not be on the sidelines of Saturday's game against Florida Atlantic.

The NCAA has denied Duron Carter's request for a hardship waiver making him ineligible to play this season.

Last season Carter practiced with the Crimson Tide. Before that he was on the Ohio State football team. Carter's latest stop is Florida Atlantic - the team Alabama plays this weekend.
