WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl MVP, Seattle Seahawks)

I've concluded he tapped out on returning long ago.
Really disappointing.
He was never returning after he tweaked the hammy v Iowa.
Even if we make the playoffs he has no intention of retuning.

I've concluded that you made a hell of a lot of assumptions about a kid you don't know.

We have no idea of the true extent of his injury. We only learned after The Game that Henderson was dealing with a broken bone and torn ligaments in his foot.

I thought I saw him on the sideline during the game wearing a black OSU jacket
For verification....

Him being out for the year I think is 100% on the training staff. They didn’t rehab him correctly or put him out there too soon.

I think he plays in the playoffs.

He is a 1st rounder for sure, but if his draft grade shows up in the late first round you MAY see him suit up for an orange bowl to get his stock back up.

Signing bonus last year was:
Pick 5 got $20M
Pick 10 got $12M
Pick 20 got $7.5M

But that is only an IF. I don’t know where he projects, but playing one game to double your signing bonus isn’t crazy. That’s why these guys can get draft injury insurance. Might also be if he can convince stroud to play, who I expect not to.

Makes a hell of a difference when you realize that singing money is the only guaranteed money in the NFL.

Contracts are changing in the NFL. Deshaun Watson begs to differ. His $230M is fully guaranteed.

Rookie contracts are set. The first round salaries are all 4-7 mil per year. Pretty similar. The signing bonuses are the huge difference. 26mil for number 1 down to 5 mil for 32.
As a receiver JSN could blow up the bowl game and get into the 5-10 range. As it stands he is probably looking closer to 20-30 now. Thats a lot of cash.

Heck, I would bet that him playing a whole game, even with mediocre stats would get him another couple million just to ease some of the injury questions.

From what I read his draft position could definitely be effected by his speed at the combine.
According to this site he's currently projected to be drafted anywhere between #15 and #30.

https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/players/2023/jaxon-smith-njigba

At the beginning of the season he was projected to be the top WR off the board and at the worst be in the top 10. There's a big hunk of change difference between the total value of the NFL 4 year rookie contracts for say #7 ($26M) vs #27 ($13M). And that doesn't count the diminished value of the 5th year that the team has the option on picking up.

Hopefully we get in the playoffs, JSN plays and goes for 250 yards per win on the way to a natty.

Problem solved for him then lol

The amount guaranteed money in the rookie contracts can be negociated.

NFL draft: which picks have guaranteed contracts?

Gone are the days when contracts were strictly controlled by the teams, as well as the days when it was a free-for-all and everything was on the table. The only real negotiable items left in the rookie contract are the schedule of payments for the signing bonus and the offset and voiding of any contract guarantees.

This has led to a reduction, almost to the point of elimination, of the rookie holdout. Most rookie contracts are signed by June. And when these holdouts do occur, the sticking point is not usually money, but the payment schedule.

For the past two draft classes, the entire contracts of the first 24 picks were fully guaranteed. This year we should expect this to be similar or possibly extended to cover the entire first round. For the remaining six rounds of players drafted, there are very few guarantees to be found. They will still need to perform for their supper.

I hear you, but I'm remembering when Brad and DeVier Posey finally got on the field together at Michigan and just missed on a pass that would have put the bucks ahead with very little time left on the clock. You don't go a whole season of not practicing together and come right back to the communication level they would have had. That MAY be the case if JSN decodes to play in a bowl game.
