THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Pending any possible reprieve, it appears Ohio State seniors Ray Small and Rob Rose likely won't be with the Buckeyes when they take on Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

Sources close to the program yesterday said the two, as well as sophomore running back Bo DeLande, would be ineligible because of a violation of team rules.

Neither the school nor coach Jim Tressel has issued an official statement on the matter, which indicates it might not be final.

"I'm not sure yet," Small's father Ken Small said last night when whether it was true.

Ray Small and Rob Rose could not be reached for comment. DeLande's father confirmed to WBNS-10TV that his son would not make the trip.

Small has been in and out of Tressel's doghouse most of his career at OSU, but was named captain for the regular-season finale at Michigan a month ago. Small was the team's No. 1 kick and punt returner, and considered the third receiver behind DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher.

wtf is going on right now. seems like the team is absolutely not focused at all. they better bring it together

A few players not being focused means nothing regarding the rest of the team. Especially when it's the same problem players over and over again.

In fact, I take Ray Small getting into trouble as a sign of normalcy regarding the rest of the team. It's not like they aren't used to it.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

There was no official word yesterday from Ohio State on the status of receiver Ray Small and defensive lineman Rob Rose for the Rose Bowl, but there was another report saying that Small wouldn't make the trip.

Small's father, Ken, told WBNS-10TV that his son told him he was not going to the bowl game, but Ray gave no reason why. The Dispatch reported yesterday that Small and Rose, both seniors, and sophomore walk-on running back Bo DeLande were expected to be ruled out of the bowl because of a violation of an unspecified team rule.

Whether they have any recourse with the university in the next few days wasn't clear. Football and athletic department officials weren't commenting yesterday and intimated that an official statement might not come until the team assembles in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Buckeyes broke camp yesterday for Christmas break. They play Oregon on Jan. 1.

If they are left behind, they will join freshman receiver Duron Carter, who was ruled ineligible for the bowl.

No reason was cited, but sources say it was because of academics.

So glad this guy doesn't have a say in how Tressel runs his program. Congrats again Ray for the huge kickoff return, keep 'em coming for the rest of the season!

Yeah so glad I don't have much say bud, and this happens! SHould've seen this coming

Too bad for Ray, this isn't gonna help his draft status that he can't stay on the field because of off the field issues

I'm still glad you don't have any say in what happens with the team. Realizing this actually brings a smile to my face in light of what has happened with Ray today.

It won't affect his draft status at all if this is only an academic issue as was previously mentioned it being rumored, so here's to hoping it's *just* academics and not something more serious for his career.

It won't affect his draft status for the simple reason that he is not an NFL caliber player. In four years, he has 659 receiving yards. I love OSU football; but let's not be delusional about what NFL talent really looks like.
