WR Santonio Holmes (Super Bowl XLIII MVP)

Iron: "No player in his right mind would leave school after his redshirt year."

Don't kid yourself: kids are dumb. Do you know that six or seven unnamed High Schoolers declared for this NFL Draft along with MoC and Williams? Kids would go the NFL/NBA/MLB as sperm if they could. Experts telling them to stay in school means nothing compared with everyone else telling him otherwise.

If anything, the redshirt spectre will cause kids to jump to the NFL rather than sit out an entire year.

Didn't Tressel say at one point he thought that Santonio would not have done as well had he been starting all of last year? I think he felt the extra time as a substitute paid dividends as far as getting a better understanding of the game.

Hence, the "in their right minds" portion of my statement. If it's a dumb kid. I don't want him at tOSU anyway.

As far as the 7 unnamed H.S. kids. One of them was a fourth string QB on his H.S. team, and none of them are expected to get drafted.

From what I have read most of those HS kids were just goofing off. If was a FB player graduating from HS and I had thought about it I would have put my name in for the draft too. Heck, if I was in the band I probably would have done it.

I don't think the Clarett ruling will have as much impact as many believe. There are not that many kids who leave early today, even though they could. Many NFL draftees are 5 year players (Hartsock, Carter, Bishop, Clarke, and Anderson to name a few). Many of those who leave after one or two years will be the same who leave after three now. I look for 5-10 WRs and DBs plus one or two super studs at other position to bail eariler than three season. It will dilute somewhat, but will have nothing like the effect it did in basketball. And evey kid who leaves will be a kid who doesn't want to be where he is - so more power to them. I think the ruling really helps a coach like JT relative to USC or Miami.

I am with IronBuckI.

As I have mentioned I was a scholarship athlete long ago.

There are a lot of student athletes very light on the student part.

A bad attitude or a couple of flunked tests and NFL here I come. Will they all make it? Of course not but the decision will be made more often. Maybe after a few try and fail or do not get drafted the light will come back on.
