WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

He has the demonstrated athletic ability to do better than he has for 5 games in a row now so yeah, I still put it on him. Not every team we played this year is good enough to shut him down the way he has been. He's talented enough to have a breakout and he's just not doing it so therefore I us the won't vs can't analogy. Sorry if you don't like the form but the message is true.

As far as having to been a former player to criticize anyone then that pretty much eliminates everyone on this site does it not?
there's a difference between saying 'Teddy seems to always being going backwards and riverdancing' (which was hilarious)... and saying "Teddy won't"... That's saying that the guy doesn't want it out there. Do I think he's being a little soft? Sure, but I'm not gonna sit here and tell a 19 year old whose prepared and tried harder than anyone on this site taht he doesn't want it enough.

Great post J. I am telling you that when you match speed with speed it is hard to come out on top. That is where route running and just understanding the nuonces of the game come in. They are coming, some of you just have to be patient.

I also don't like the whole north-south thing unless he is running around and losing ten yards, when he catches a stop and goes up the field he might get a yard or two, if he catches makes a move and picks up 10 more which one would you guys like better.

Just like last year against Okie St. if he catches that hitch and runs up the field for 2 more yards we don't see the electric play that he actually made for 40 yards.

I think the field had a lot to do with how Teddy played today and the rest just looked like he was scared to get hit. I haven't ever seen him so unsure of himself before so its really hard to describe and unbelievable to watch. I think we need to concentrate on getting the ball to Holmes more and let the defense make its adjustments before we force the ball like we are doing now. Teddy's returns are just mind numbing right now.

Ginn is running with his tail between his legs, he almost comes to a complete stop on his returns, it looks like hes afraid to slice through the defense and take a hit. Honestly, I have never seen a kick/punt returner run as slow as he did last night, until he understands what he has to do, and starts running like we know he can I think we should bench him and let him think it over...

Not catching the last punt and giving us horrendous field position at the end of the game, was a complete mental breakdown. I think the hype got to a young shy Sophomore and his lack of focus so far has proved to hurt this team. Maybe JT sits him for a quarter or two. Eventually he'll come around to much talent and he will prove that he does have a heart of a Buckeye.

I am not sure I agree with the argument that Ginn's not producing b/c we aren't getting him the ball enough, b/c I think that implies we need to run more WR screens to him. Granted, he's not getting the 10-15 touches a game that everyone's arguing for, but he touches the ball several times a game on kickoff returns, punt returns, and a few plays on offense, yet there's still no production. I don't know what the problem with Teddy is, and I would love to see him have the success that he had last year. I just have a hard time believing that the answer is to run yet another end-around to him or throw another WR screen to him.

I think the solution, rather is exploiting his speed and throwing the ball to him 15+ yards down the field. As was shown on last night's telecast, he's getting open down the field--Smith just didn't realize he was open last night apparently. Maybe we'll have better luck next week.

Last year he played with complete abandon and confidence.

This year he has generally played in a more tentative fashion, he does not display the free-spirit we saw last year. Is his mind focussed on the hype and not living up to such unreasonable expectations? Could his father's recent bout of ill-health be preying on his mind? Hell, I don't know. What I do see with my eyes is a player that is not bringing his A-game, and I feel very sad for him.

Whatever it takes for Ginn to buck this trend the coaching staff should explore it and use it. Whether it demands time off to get his head straight, visits from TG Sr, meditation, visualization exercises or heck, even hypnosis. It isn't fair to Teddy Ginn that his miasma is allowed to get worse.

Your kidding right. How can you say it was a mental breakdown, he went to catch the ball and thought better of it and didnt want to make a mistake and drop it so he let it go. Lucky for them it bounced another 15 yds.

How quickly we forget that he did take that one to the house against Iowa that was called back on a shitty call. He did have a couple of catches last nite. When teams key on a player it is hard to deliver, but for the people that question his effort and say he is playing tentative is beside me.

How many times has he been downfield trying to block players and spring the running backs. Don't tell me he is afraid of contact, he is just trying to make a big play.

He waved for a fair catch, then almost touched the ball and It is never a good thing to have a football drop so close to you when that damn thing can go anywhere!!! Rule of thumb if you're not going to catch get as far away from it as possible... Hell, he got lucky it didn't hit him.... I bet their isn't one football coach in America that would say that was not a mental error...

Hey for the record I think we're all TG2 fans, but just because he lit it up last year doesn't mean he gets a free pass the rest of his Buckeye career.

My main point is I don't think he is scared but I think he is not mentally as focus and as confident so far this year...

Lastly, I do believe you can't hold special talent down forever and TG2 will come around... I just think maybe all the press has possibly thrown him off.

Just an opinion.

People keep saying Ginn is afraid to get hit! I don't see that, and it just pisses me off! He's been indecisive. He's learning on the job, so to speak. And teams have game planned around him! It's a work in progress people! :pissed:

It was a freezing, wet, windy ballgame. He misjudged the punt, which could have been a product of the weather, and thought better of catching the ball when he was out of position. Trying to field that ball when he wasn't ready to catch it, let alone hold on after getting popped, was a very smart move. Sure we would prefer it didn't bounce that way, but it wasn't a horrendous mistake.

Ginn was open A LOT and had tons of single coverage. He barely saw the ball.

Mental breakdown? NOT touching that punt was the onlt thing that kept us in the game, because it was a TD otherwise when the Penn State player recovered it....sadly, that was the offense's smartest play all game...and it wasn't even the offense.
