WR Ted Ginn, Jr. (Official Thread)

Dan Henning expects Ted Ginn Jr. to come up with TD catch ?five out of 10 times?
by Edgar Thompson

Dolphins? offensive coordinator Dan Henning said the final few minutes of Monday night?s 27-23 loss to the Colts could have been better.

But it also could have been worse.

?Don Shula told me a long time ago whether it be the media or the fans or your family or the owner, when somebody second guesses you, they put the very best thing that could have happened next to the thing that could have happened,? Henning said. ?They don?t put the nine other son of a bitches that could have happened that are a lot worse.?

Despite a screw-up with a personnel grouping that cost the Dolphins a timeout early in the drive, Henning said the Dolphins had enough plays to score a touchdown and win the game.

?We still got 14 plays; 14 plays you got to get the ball in the end zone,? Henning said. ?We didn?t make the plays to get it in the end zone.?

The Dolphins came closest on a pass from Chad Pennington to Ted Ginn Jr. that bounced off Ginn?s hands incomplete with 27 seconds remaining.

?I thought Chad made a great read on the ball that he threw to Teddy in the end zone,? Henning said. ?And I would expect Teddy feels five out of 10 times he?s going to come down with that ball.

?We wouldn?t have said anything about the two minutes then. We say it when we don?t score.?

Miami Dolphins talking points: Ted Ginn Jr. remains unreliable
by Brian Biggane

1. Davone Bess is reliable, Ted Ginn Jr. is not.

While Bess had yet another solid game as slot receiver, catching seven passes for 54 yards and fighting for every extra inch, Ginn once again was a letdown.

Bess has clearly passed the struggling Greg Camarillo to become Miami?s top possession receiver, and the same elusiveness he has shown on punt returns makes him dangerous once he gets his hands on the ball.

Ginn, meanwhile, did next to nothing on Sunday, dropping back-to-back passes at one point and failing to catch a single pass. He did get behind the Chargers? defense on one play only to have the ball overthrown. But who?s to say he would have held onto that pass if it had come to him?

While fans? frustration has to be peaking with Ginn, the former first-rounder, Bess, the undrafted free agent, has earned an even bigger role in the offense in weeks to come.

Not that I wish injury on anyone, but Pennington's injury gives Chad Henne(who's a mother fuckin dick), the opportunity to start in Miami. Hopefully his arm will give the Dolphins a better opportunity to hit the home run with Teddy.

Time for Dolphins to Begin A-Ginn
Ted Ginn continues to prove you never draft a special teamer with your first round pick
By TODD WRIGHT
Mon, Sep 28, 2009

Getty Images For as terrible as Cam Cameron was as a coach, he may have warned all Dolphins of what Ted Ginn Jr. was destined to be.

A special teamer.

"You're going to be thrilled every time you watch him as a punt returner because he is going to be a great returner for us," Cameron said amid a chorus of boos at a draft party in 2007.

Unfortunately in the NFL, drafting a special team player with your top draft pick never quite works out. Shame on us for thinking the ninth overall pick should blossom into a No. 1-quality receiver.

We shouldn't be mad that Ginn can't seem to catch anything, including the swine flu. That's not why the Dolphins drafted him.

Who cares if he couldn't get open even if he worked at a 24-hour convenience store or that he gets about as much separation from a DB as a snail does from its shell.

That's not who Ginn is or who the Dolphins envisioned him to be. He's a return man.

Ah yes....the Henne Heave.

I'd like to see Ted Ginn work with a top QB like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or dare I say it, Brett Favre. Ted has concentration issues, no doubt, but I think he needs a QB to make him look good, not the other way around. And that's not a bad thing.

They just traded for a QB that can help a lot. He'll see the field sooner rather than later. Kid's got a big heart, knows the deal, threw to a Randy Moss type in college, and has all the tools. Parcells knows the deal.

I hate to say it, but Ted needs to catch the damn ball, regardless of who's throwing it. I was so dissapointed to see him let a game winning TD pass slip through his hands two weeks ago. He's got to catch those.

Glad someone else said it first. The guy has issues catching the football, creating consistent seperation, and picking up yards after the catch. I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe Teddy is going to be more than a decent #2 type WR at best.

If only DrewZwick had been able to convince him to stay another year :sad2:

Q&A: Tony Sparano's comments following Thursday's practice

(On if they are getting the production out of Ted Ginn that he wants) - "I would say yes we are getting the production that we want out of Ted for what we have done or been able to do with him. What you don't know, that we know, is the number of times we tried to get the ball to Ted down the field deep. Take a shot a down the field deep. It had nothing to do with Ted, it is just coverage. I don't know how to make it really any clearer. If [Chad Henne] goes out there on Sunday and he just tries to throw the ball to one guy, regardless of coverage, he going to come off the field with 10 interceptions and everybody around here is going to wonder 'what the heck'. It doesn't work that way. It is predicated a large part on the look and some of those situations, you are thinking potential big play and all of a sudden the coverage dictates check down. You are sitting out there, fingers crossed, that we are going to get this look. It is not just a shot in the dark; you are trying to formulate that look. The guys get paid on the other side too, those coaching staffs. You are creating formations to try to get the luck and take the shot and sometimes it does not equal what they are doing."

(On how many times per game has that happened) - "I would say it has happen about. . . I would say 6 times in the three games. I would say there is another two per game that were called deep balls to try and get the ball down the field. Now you saw one on the opening play of the game the other day, it just didn't hook up. That has happened another two, three times too. That is a little bit the frustrating thing.

Fresh Phins: Dolphins need Ted Ginn Jr. to produce
Posted by Omar Kelly on October 1, 2009

Those who have followed me for a while know I usually don't blow smoke up your you know what.

I'm not going to talk up a Dolphins player unless I've seen something substantial, or seen him consistently do it (there are exceptions).

I bring this up to point out that during the media portion of Thursday's practice I noticed a little extra giddy up from Ted Ginn Jr., or as his teammates and coaches call him.... Teddy.

Sidebar: What grown man gets called Teddy?

Over the past three seasons I've concluded Ginn isn't the hardest worker during practice. I'm not saying he dogs it, but its one of those things where he just does enough.

But during the action i saw Thursday he was consistently in fifth gear, got open during the one-on-one portion of practice, and actually fought the cornerback for the ball and won the battle each time.

What does this mean, especially since Chad Henne and his big arm are finally at the trigger of this offense, possibly waking up the Dolphins' deep passing game?

I honestly have no idea. But I will say Ginn is potentially the biggest mismatch the Dolphins have over a Bills team that has an injury-decimated secondary.

So far Ginn has been thrown 27 passes this season, which has him tied for the 9th most passes in the league. All but one player ahead or tied with him (Eagles tight end Brent Celek) is amongst the NFL's elites, and are considered go-to players.

As for Ginn, he's only produced 13 receptions for 134 yards. And of those yards only ONE of them have courtesy of yards after catch.

Considering Ginn came alive last year against Buffalo, and the Bills secondary the Dolphins will face on Sunday is full of second-stringers, how much should the Dolphins expect from the guy who is suppose to be their No. 1 option.....
