WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

No offense to Mr. Henton cause I love his arm, his escapability, and his leadership... but he is not Pryor... Now u can tell me he hasnt proven anything other than that he is an exceptional HS QB... but Henton still hasnt proven anything, and I would say that Pryor is much further along than Antonio was as a HS junior..

Have you seen them both in person? If not, then you can't make that statement...you're simply going on the amount of hype each had in high school.

Let's be real...90% of the people on these boards have never seen anything more than a few Rivals/Scout highlights of most of these recruits, and some haven't even seen that much.

When you are in the driver's seat for the #1 recruit in the country who is a QB it's tough not to get excited. Look at ND and Clausen last year. He was called the LeBron of high school football. Let's see what, if anything, he does this Fall.

Troy was an Elite 11 quarterback, and a 4-star prospect according to both Rivals and Scout - I think that a few people "knew who he was" long before Michigan 2004.

If I were a betting man, then I'd put my money on Henton, not Pryor, being "the next big thing". Henton has already had one year in the Ohio State program and is a legitimate candidate to start for the Buckeyes this year, and Pryor hasn't even begun his senior year in high school yet. A lot can happen before Pryor sets foot on any college campus.

It is a rarity for a QB to come into a program and start as a true freshman - Brady Quinn, Isiah Williams, Chris Leak, etc. are the exceptions, not the rule. I would be surprised if Pryor did it. And if Pryor really is the "next Vince Young", then he won't - Young, the number one overall prospect in the country, was a red-shirt at Texas in 2002. (BTW, Michael Vick was also a freshman redshirt, as was JaMarucs Russell).

Lest we forget, Tim Tebow, the QB phenom of the class of 2006, did not start for Florida last season.

Sounds like GPA material right there...you're an admin, hook yourself up.

I still think Mallett was the best qb last year.

I still think Ohio State is better than m*ch*g*n.

Great post by LJB. I honestly had forgotten that Vick did redshirt. Another thing to remember is how much most of those phenom QB's struggled as first year starters.

There are a lot of good comments in this thread about how things might work out vis a vis Henton-Pryor, what is the best course for Pryor to take, how long it takes for QBs to develop, how rare it is for first or second year QBs to start, etc., etc.

However, the issue on the table is where Pryor will decide to go to school. That decision will be made by a teenager. One who is being told he is the best QB in the upcoming class. A teenager who will be told by any number of coaches that he will be their #1 guy from day one if that is what it takes to get him to commit (JT excluded I sincerely believe).

Recruiting is sales, not logic.

Here's hoping there are some solid advisers in his corner.

I didn't say that nobody knew who he was, or mean to imply that Troy Smith wasn't regarded as a good player, I just meant that his situation was not like Pryor's. Grades, off-field issues, whatever, Troy wasn't a phenomenon #1 prospect like Pryor looks to be. Troy was still a good player (and turned out to be great like we all know), but i'm not sure how many people were touting him to be the next great thing, especially from his junior year of high school.

They say never to follow a legend (Tebow), follow the guy that follows the legend (Boeckman). Seems like a simple decision for TP :p

Although I agree with your logic, I don't know if that helps OSU...

Tomczak
Tupa
Fry
Graham
Hoying
Jackson (although he wasn't as much of a dud as many people think)
Germaine
Bellisari
Krenzel
Zwick
Smith
Boeckman
Henton...

Okay, so maybe this is a bit exaggerated, and obviously Boeckman and Henton have done nothing to continue this trend... yet. But, it Pryor would have to break my pseudo-trend.

Jeannette's Pryor in high demand
By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, May 17, 2007

Reitz said every interested school except Notre Dame -- which told Pryor he would get a shot at quarterback or be moved to wide receiver -- is recruiting Pryor as a quarterback.

Reitz said Pryor and Florida football coach Urban Meyer were text messaging each other during the NCAA basketball championship game between Florida and Ohio State.
