Buckeye signal caller one of 13 juniors to make the list

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor is among 30 of the nation's top collegiate quarterbacks who were selected to the 2010 Davey O?Brien National Quarterback Award watch list. Preseason consideration is based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2010 college football season.

Last season Pryor passed for 2,094 yards with 18 touchdowns and led the Buckeyes with 779 yards and seven TDs on the ground. The Rose Bowl MVP passed for a season-high 266 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 72 more and set an Ohio State bowl game record with 338 yards of total offense as the Buckeyes upset the Oregon Ducks on New Year?s Day, 26-17. He enters 2010 with more than 4,800 yards of total offense and is the fifth Buckeye quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 career yards with two years of eligibility remaining.

Pryor is one of 13 juniors to make the list and joins counterparts Ricky Stanzi (Iowa) and Scott Tolzien (Wisconsin) from the Big Ten.

Appearing on the Watch List is not a requirement for a player to be awarded The O'Brien. Quarterbacks from all 120 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools are eligible for the award until the field is narrowed to 16 semifinalists Monday, Oct. 25. The Foundation and the Selection Committee will announce three finalists Monday, Nov. 22. The 2010 winner will be announced on The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show Thursday, Dec. 9.
The Davey O'Brien trophy is the oldest and most prestigious quarterback award. Candidates are evaluated on their quarterback skills/athletic ability, academics, team spirit, character, leadership and sportsmanship.

I can't help but feel the best is yet to come from this youngster. If he can stay healthy he could very easily become a fixture at the top of tOSU record book for QB's.

I could not agree more... The updates posted throughout this thread show not only maturation off the field, but also a drive and desire that must come deep from within to be the absolute best he can be...

Either I never fully realized or have since forgotten just how injured Terrelle was throughout last season. Two turf toes (which I can tell you from experience is one of the worst feelings ever and never really fully heals), a torn ligament in his knee, a sprained knee on the other side, a broken finger on his throwing hand, and I've since been told he had a concussion midway through the season which is why you saw him switch helmets several times throughout the year. Amazing.

This just reminds me how much we depended on Terrelle to lead our team... Boy I sure hope someone steps up just a little more so that Pryor doesn't have to carry us that much (although he probably will). I for one hope we beat the teams we are suppose to beat like Marshall and Ohio University soundly by halftime so we can get him out of the game.

Last year I remember against New Mexico State thinking "Boy he's taking a beating in this game" and come to find out that's when it became evident that he was injured. If Saine, Herron, Hall, and Berry can go for around 2,000 yards total rushing yards i'll bet Pryor is in better shape by the years end.

I agree strongly with this. We have to have one of the most if not the most lethal backfields in the nation.

you can really see the leg and feet injuries having an affect if you go back and watch highlights of the illi game then highlights of the penn state game. it affected his entire stride.

I'd also like to see some more blowouts early so Kenny Guiton can get some real reps. God forbid the unthinkable happen and we have a QB thats never taken a real game snap thrust into the game. Its on the offensive and defensive lines to dominate like they're supposed to so that we can engineer these blowouts early.

I think we need to keep in mind that we didn't lean on Terrelle AS MUCH during a long stretch of our games. Iowa and PSU, arguably two of our biggest games, were won mostly by our running backs, offensive line, and pure defense with some special teams efficiency sprinkled in.
I think our staff is really licking their chops right now with what they have and having a tough time trying to figure out what they want to do with all this talent. Do we turn into a pro style type of offense? Lots of between the tackles running, playaction and short running routes with the deep ball here and there? I'd like to see TP develop his passing in the middle third of the field. He throws the deep ball well but it will be interesting to see where his game is come September.

along with at least 1,000 yards on the ground. then i'll be happy.

Naturally. I mean, all JT asks for is 250 passing yards per game and 200 yards rushing. Well sure, JT says that idea for TEAM stats, but really, why don't we just expect TP go get those each game. Seems reasonable...right?

I agree with matcar, anything less than a 3,000/1,000 passing/rushing yardage season is a failure. Matcar is right! Rabble rabble rabble!

I concur With IronColonel who concurs with matcar....er...uh..me.

Assuming 13 games, that puts TP at 3,300 yards passing and 2,600 yards rushing. No small feat mind you, but sheesh, this guy is a legend around here. I mean, his thread had the highest post count on BP before he played a down here I think.

Truthfully, I'm just hopeful that TP has a stellar TD to INT ratio. Everything else will likely fall into place if he's healthy for the year and the above is true.
