WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

I don't know what Oakland will do this offseason - it's Oakland, after all - but Pryor has looked good enough to get strong consideration going into next season.

Leinart sucks, Palmer is gone - no way they give him $13 million - and the draft is thin. I could see them liking Barkley, though. Again, they're the Raiders.

I hope they are that dumb. Any offensive players that go before 6 make me happy.

Pryor looked pretty damn good out there today. He got his team within 3 points. He was keeping drives alive with his scrambling and was heady enough to not try and do it all himself.

Seems like he's putting it together as a QB. For a first start, not a bad job at all. Maybe he can quiet the drunken idiots that want to see him at WR or TE.

Considering the wet conditions and the fact that Pryor hasn't started a game in two years and had to shake off some rust, his performance was impressive. Yes, he missed a few throws, but also made some nice ones and did a really good job eluding the rush and extending plays. I think he will earn the starting job next season. The Raiders have nothing to gain by going with Palmer or Leinart.

I was really impressed with a couple of things and scouts will be as well.

He slid in the pocket extremely well. My eyes got really wide a couple of times watching him step up into the pocket to avoid pressure on the edge, reset himself, and throw a good ball.

I was also impressed with how well he managed the huddle. For his first start he handled the play-calls and clock really well.

He also threw a couple really nice deep balls. His first of the day, where Quinton Jammer was called for illegal contact, was on the money assuming the route wasn't interrupted by the penalty. He had another down the sideline towards the end of the first half where he overthrew his receiver by a foot. A better receiver is right there for the catch.

The 13-28 is also a bit misleading. There were at least 3 drops.

All in all, I was really impressed. If Oakland doesn't give him a serious look next year they are idiots. The advantage Pryor had over a guy like Cam Newton coming into the NFL was game management, field leadership, and ability to read a defense. I thought all 3 of those attributes showed up today. With a few more starts, I really don't see why he couldn't be as dangerous as Newton. I think people easily forget how successful of a season Terrelle had throwing the football his junior season, while operating a much more complex and difficult system for a QB. While Newton had 1 read and a throw, by the time Terrelle was a sophomore he was developing skills on how to make progressions and read coverages. In Newtons junior season, audibles came from the sideline, through the coaching staff. They didn't even have offensive terminology.

A lot of it will depend on coaching, but I really think Terrelle could have a bright future in front of him, assuming Oakland puts a competent play-caller with him and he is given the opportunity.

He still hasnt learned to pass both short accurately and deep. He di ok in decisions tho. But I don't think he will make it until he does learn how to pass like a pro.

I dunno, I thought he dump pass on the run to set up a first and goal was pretty impressive on the short passes.

Not sure what people were expecting from a kid in his FIRST start? Its almost as if he didnt come out looking like a seasoned Tom Brady that he isnt starting material. Let the kid get a couple games in before already counting him out. He accounted for all three Raider touchdowns and brought the team to within 3 points of a tie for OT.

His biggest improvement IMO is checking off defenders and keeping the drive alive for positive yards.

Didn't see the game, so I have no opinion on how he played. However, I am old school when it comes to quarterbacks. I think all of them should sit a couple years before they start in the NFL. I think the fact that Pryor has gotten to sit and watch will do him a lot of good. I think we've seen some pretty high potential QBs get ruined (mentally) in the last decade because they were thrown in the fire way too soon. Just my imo...

Poole: Oakland Raiders' Terrelle Pryor shows promise in debut as starting quarterback

SAN DIEGO -- Plenty of passes missed their target, and a few simply were dropped. Some wobbled, others sailed. Only one deserves to be included in an instructional video.

Yet Terrelle Pryor is considerably less mysterious after spending three hours on an NFL field Sunday afternoon.

Much more important than the game itself, a 24-21 season-ending loss by the Raiders to the San Diego Chargers, was Pryor's three-hour debut as a starter, an audition to determine if he might someday evolve from tantalizing project to reliable NFL quarterback.

He just might.

Pryor's performance, even in defeat and despite scattered showers that turned Qualcomm Stadium into a well-manicured swamp, confirmed there is enough potential for the Raiders to rededicate themselves to developing him as a passer.

"He did some good things," coach Dennis Allen said of Pryor, who spent most of the season as an inactive third-stringer. "Obviously, there's still some work to be done."

Plenty of work still to be done. Pryor is not yet ready to start in the NFL, much less win. He is not a truly accurate passer and may never be. He needs to shorten his memory after mistakes. He faces a steep learning curve. He is adjusting to the speed of the league.

But he was not at all the disaster some feared he might be, based on an erratic training camp and uneven practices.

"On a wet, soggy field, I was most pleased with the way he protected the football,"general manager Reggie McKenzie said. "You can point to the things that didn't look so good, the passes he missed, but under those conditions he protected the ball and gave himself a chance to finish plays."

Pryor's passing numbers were pedestrian: 13 of 28 for 150 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His best throw surely was a beautiful 38-yard pass to wide receiver Rod Streater that led to Oakland's second touchdown, a 3-yard scamper by Pryor.

The 23-year-old showed himself to be a sturdy and elusive runner, as expected (49 yards on nine carries). He flashed leadership ability, which could not have been presumed. And his competitive desire, a key component for the growth of any quarterback, was unmistakable.

Pryor's aptitude for leadership and thirst for victory were on display early in the second quarter. During a second-and-14 play from the San Diego 17, Raiders running back Mike Goodson engaged in a scuffle with Chargers linebacker Takeo Spikes, which led to teammates coming to the aid of each. Pryor physically yanked Goodson away from the scrum, flinging his teammate to the turf.
