Seriously though, JT would win every cold weather game in Cleveland with his philosophy. But I never thought he had any interest in the Pros. He likes dealing with college kids. That's his life.

"He doesn't look out of place,'' said Pettine. "It's still very early, too early to tell, but he does not look out of place. He does some good things. He is just behind from the learning standpoint and the subtleties of playing receiver. If you had asked where he would be at this point, I would think we would all agree he is ahead of where we thought he would be."

But can Pryor close the gap quickly enough to make the 53-man roster and contribute this season?

"It's hard to say right now,'' said Phillips. "I'm not going to put that kind of pressure on him or myself. I can tell you this, he's very, very -- and I'll say it two times -- very, very talented. There's no question about that. The guy's talented, and talent wins ball games. Now, we've got to challenge that talent with the techniques that we have and give him a chance to be successful out wide.''

Where Pryor may be deficient vs other fourth and fifth receivers in terms of contributions on special teams (at least right now) he'd make up for it in gadget plays, red zone packages, and the fact that the team doesn't have to carry a third QB. He's not an NFL starter, but he's serviceable in the worst case scenario (and frankly, I think he's even with Manziel).

I was actually thinking the same thing, and now I can't decide if its off the edge or over the top, or either, but, yeah, obviously it would be helpful if he had something other than "developing receiver" on his resume... I suppose he's got wildcat QB on it, but, if Manziel isn't into sacrificing his body, I'm not sure why he's still around. I'm not sure the gadget plays are very gadgety if he's not played his way into a number of packages... Really, though, if the hands are for real, and he can handle the contact, we know the leaping athleticism basketball type skills are there.

Honestly if Manziel doesn't show big improvement from last season during the preseason I'd cut him (maybe trade to Dallas for a low pick), go with Lewis as the backup, Pryor as the emergency, and Shaw on the PS.

I'll be disappointed next Thursday if TP doesn't get in the game until the 4th quarter and then they keep the ball on the ground the whole time. I think they'll give him a shot since they know he's either on the roster or gone. They have 6 weeks to determine if he can be an NFL WR that can help this year so they need to see what he does when the bullets are flying.

Browns' Terrelle Pryor laughs off wobbly pass, tweaks hamstring

Quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor got a chance to dust off his passing skills at Browns practice Tuesday and injured his hamstring in the process.

Pryor completed his first pass to Dwayne Bowe off an end around, then fired what was described as a "wobbling duck" by Northeast Ohio Media Group's Mary Kay Cabot to Travis Benjamin deep down the right sideline. Benjamin caught the pass, but it should've been picked off by Pierre Desir.

Pryor, who sat out the rest of practice with an ice wrap around his hamstring, was self-deprecating about his lack of spin on the ball.

"They said it was wobbly and ugly," Pryor said with a smile. "They said I lost my QB skills. I told them I never had them."

Head coach Mike Pettine said Pryor's hamstring injury isn't believed to be serious, but he'll have a precautionary MRI. Pryor estimated he may miss a day or so but hopes to be back for Friday's scrimmage at his alma mater, Ohio State.
