WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Gazette

OSU's Tressel will find a way to get Pryor on field
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Ohio State's starting quarterback has one more year of eligibility, but that doesn't mean Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel won't give playing time next season to Jeannette High School quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
Pryor, the No. 1-ranked player in the country, according to several recruiting services, signed with Ohio State yesterday, choosing the Buckeyes over Michigan. Penn State and Oregon were his other finalists.
Todd Boeckman is the returning starter at quarterback for Ohio State and last season he helped the Buckeyes reach the national championship game.
"The thing you need to do as a coaching staff is get people on the field who can make plays and design things for what people are ready to do," Tressel said in a conference call this afternoon. "Everyone is aware that [Pryor] has the kind of ability that once he understands the system and knows opposing defenses, he's going to have a chance to show his playmaking ability."
Pryor said yesterday he hopes to be used in a similar way that the University of Florida used Tim Tebow when he was a freshman two years ago during the Gators' run to the national championship. Tebow was C.J. Leak's backup, but Tebow was used on a number of plays during the course of games. Many of the plays were quarterback runs.
"I think it's Terrelle's passion to make it impossible for us not to put him in the football game," Tressel said. "That's what is exciting about a guy with his goals. He didn't want you to promise him anything [concerning playing time]. He's very sensitive to his teammates. He wants to earn everything he gets."
Pryor will enroll at Ohio State June 16.

I heard Tressel has already commented on Pryor coming to tOSU. Is there a transcript of what he said or a news story with Tressel talking about Pryor? I've read probably a dozen stories on here and none of them have quotes from Tressel.

Did you try 21's post right above mine? :wink2: (I haven't seen a transcript, to answer your question)

I have been looking at his vids and trying to get a feel for his passing ability right now. He looks like a "slinger", but with a regular delivery versus a side arm delivery like VY has. He doesn't set up for passes. His foot work is raw . But you see he has plenty of arm strength. Better foot work will take advantage of his arm strength. His arm strength will improve of course.
His accuracy looks good. But, his receivers were getting open a lot.
He is elusive in the pocket and buys time for his receivers.
Very raw but shows good accuracy and judgement. He seems to see the field pretty well.

I listened to the interview today and was impressed with his concern and sensitivity for others - other coaches, teams, team-mates and most importantly his family. Any 18 year old HS kid who can carry himself like he did and stand in front of the world making his announcement and taking questions is ready to go to the next level. He's already showing his grit as an individual and his potential leadership qualities, qualities he will take to the football field. He managed to keep us all in waiting as he concentrated on finishing his championship basketball season and showed how much he cared about his team. He allowed none of his personal distractions to effect the team and their mission - to win the state bball championship. If he has that sort of focus and committment, the Buckeyes are in for the show of their lives over the next 4 years. He is confident, caring, focused, fearless, talented and apparently a new Buckeye with another mission - to help Jim Tressel and his Buckeyes win another Big Ten and National Championship. Go for it Terrelle. Your fans support you 110%.
