When is this [Mark May] gonna end??? My god, they are reporting the exact time he went into the BMV to presnet his insurance card and get his license reinstated.
Next thing you know we will be seeing the ESPN banner report that he walked out of public restroom without washing his hands after taking a dump!

I am an obvious Razorback fan. That being said, I don't wish any of this on you OSU faithful. It is a sad day for ALL of college football. Here is what I think is going to happen:
1. TP declares for the supplemental draft with the blessing of OSU.
2. OSU will be forced to vacate the 2010 season(that doesn't mean Arkansas gets the win in the bowl, OSU won it).
3. OSU gets hit with a bowl ban for 2 years
4. If USC is any indication, OSU gets hit with a loss of 10-15 scholarships each year for the next 2 years.
5. The OSU AD needs to be run out of town as soon as sanctions are announced.
6. The entire compliance staff needs to either be fired, retrained, or replaced with competent staffers.
7. Pray that none of OSU assistant coaches knew anything about the emails until AFTER they were made public.

Unless there is a lot more we don't know I don't see all that happening.

- Vacating the 2010 season, pretty much a given in my opinion (all though since they specifically ruled the players eligible for the bowl game they may not vacate that)

- Probation for 2-4 years with increased compliance reporting during that period.

- Bowl ban and scholarship reductions are harder to call. I can't see major scholarship reductions coming from this unless evidence turns up that more people at the Uni other than just JT turned a blind eye to the equipment/memorabilia trading. I don't think you'll see any bowl ban nor more than token scholly reductions (3-4/yr for 3 years) unless LOIC charges enter the picture.

- The car thing may get a few boosters banned and TP declared permanently ineligible (if that's even in play by the time that's decided) but I don't think it will result in more than embarassment for the Uni and warning by the NCAA to do a much better job monitoring things.

In USC's case, besides the fact that they did not fully co-operate with the NCAA and thhat the actual LOIC was based on multiple sports, I think another key factor in their punishment was the fact that Bush and Carroll were both already gone and could not recieve punishment.

With tOSU:

  • There are elements of self reporting ad co-operating with the NCAA. While Tressell did not immediately report the emails as he should per NCAA bylaws, the school did self report to the NCAA once the e-mails were found by a staffer

  • Tressell was already had a 5 game suspension in place and accepted by the school and then took a larger punishment by resigning(Carroll merely switched jobs and got a raise)

  • The Tat5 already each had 5 game suspensions in place which they will serve(unless someone bolts)

  • The SI article, while it looks damning to Tressell especially, is heavy on speculation and antecdotes from well before Tress arrived at tOSU and not so sound sources regarding the players that may have visited Fine Line, Inc. Hanging out at Fine Line alone will not constitute more violations or things that compliance and the staff should have found or reported. Unless, items beyond what the feds already found for the Tat5 show up, there is nothing from that part of the SI that would lead to extreme punishment.

  • Regarding "cargate" if what the Auto Direct dealer has claimed in his sworn affidavit holds up to NCAA inquiry and if Pryor's lawyers claims and documentations for his car history hold up, there is not much in that angle that should lead to harsh penalties on those SI "charges".

Obviously, though, this is so fluid, and the battle of public information and perception is swaying back and forth daily and even hourly.

I do expect punishments beyond the initial Tat5 and Tress 5 game suspensions, but I do not think they will reach the severity of the USC penalties. Something more along the lines of:

  • suspensions upheld for the Tat5

  • much/all of 2010 wins vacated

  • multiple year probation

  • possible scholarship loss(5 per year for 3 years?)

  • possible additional punishment for Pryor(if he even decides to stick around) depending on how the reast of the investigation goes, and possible 2-5 games suspensions(much like the number of UNC guys suspended in the beginning of last year) for any of the additional names that "Ellis"/SI named that are found to have sold/traded autographs/memorabilia for Tats or cash.

You've been watching too much ESPN if you really think that is what is going to happen.

didn't reggie bush get benefits in the hundreds of thousands? Do you think the amount matters in terms of punishment?

I'm not sure I understand where you're going with those questions. Do you think kchog is correct in what punishment OSU will get? Because right now, I think the only people who believe the punishment will be that severe are Pat Forde and Mary May.

Maybe Skip Bayless.

Honestly I don't think USC's punishment is appropriate to use comparitively unless serious institutional level charges enter the picture. Despite how embarrassing this looks on the surface for OSU they aren't being asses to the NCAA like USC was.

Just heard TPs tires were under-inflated and he missed his Jiffy-Lube oil change interval by 753 miles..... :shake:

Mike Leach on Sirius this morning talking about how a feeding frenzy occurs with everyone wanting to scoop each other and find even more moral indignation for each increasingly minor issue. That is looking spot on. "Feeding frenzy" sounds right.
Granted, TP's "I paid for my tats" tweet sort of set him back as a pillar of credibility given the way they were paid for, but the press is getting pretty petty about some of this.

Wow. You just summarized and agreed with Mike Leach. Does the LA Bar Association need to know this?
